Moving a 610 cab up & downstairs without help?

***Sadly, I have decided to pass on the Ampeg V4B & 610HLF cab due to the difficulty involved moving it. Someone out there with a more ideal living situation is getting a sweet rig for sure.

Tomorrow I'm looking at a used Ampeg V4B & 610HLF cab. I'm a little concerned about moving the big cab & it could be unrealistic. I live in a four unit apartment, on the second floor & I will have to move it in & out for gigs.

There's about 5 or 6 steps, then a landing & 5 or 6 more. I know it weighs about 120#. I currently use a Gallien Krueger NEO 410 which apparently weighs around 70#. I usually just bear hug it & move it about.

Am I delusional thinking I can move this cab up & down stairs by myself? Do that casters & big handle help?

Not delusional, because you know the problems, but mad? Certainly!

I'd call moving a 120lb cab (and all the rest of your gear) in and out of a 2nd floor apartment the height of madness. Castors won't help on stairs. One of those sack trucks with the 3-way wheels might work.

IMO you have to find a more manageable rig or a better place to store it. Maybe leave the cab in the car and take everything else up to the apartment.

Well I'm a big guy, 300+ I'd probably bigger than I am strong though, heh. I feel like @ the least I could pick It up for 10 seconds 2x to go up a few stairs. Maybe my ears are betraying my muscles?

I'd just hate for the wheels to make it too "slippery" going down the steps.

Is the big metal handle sturdy enough I wonder?

A sack trolley with regular 10'' tyres can work so long as your stair treads aren't too tiny. Going up you hoist with your legs up and over each step using straight back. Going down is slow and steady. Drop, hold, roll, drop, hold...you don't want it taking off on you.

It can be done if you have a healthy back and the strength to do it (most men do). Easiest way is to pull it up step by step one heave at a time when ascending, and lower it gently step by step when descending. Personally I'd rather to that with a tall 120lb cab than bearhug and carry a 70lb 410. It'll be annoying though, and you may tire of doing it pretty quickly.

Is potential damage to the stairway an issue? Meaning, are the stairs themselves nicely finished and owned by someone else? Because dragging that thing up and down is definitely going to put some surface wear on the steps. And if it's an indoor residential type finish vs. outdoor or commercial finish that there is a potential of breaking steps.

Yep I wouldn't even consider touching that cab if stairs are involved. In fact, I'd replace that GK as well as it's a tank too. I can't imagine moving a 70lb cabinet, much less a 120lb cabinet!

Rehearsal space is in a basement & I don't own a garage, nor would I feel comfortable leaving the cab in one.

Vehicle is a Mazda 2 which is basically a Ford Festiva. It'd definitely fit.

I'd strongly consider a Barefaced Super Twin. 37 pounds, you can carry it with one hand, and will easily outperform the GK.

I'm only considering the 610 due to the Ampeg V4B. I can't figure a cab more appropriate for the V4B.

Barefaced Six10 is 65 pounds. A little less than your 410, but a whole LOT less than the other 610. And yes, it will run circles around an Ampeg cab.

Can you do it? Probably. Will you eventually have an accident doing it resulting in injury? Quite possible. I say it's completely bonkers. There are much smaller and lighter cabs that will get the job done. I wouldn't even consider it.

oh sure you can... locate a used Bergantino NV610. It’ll wallop the Ampeg Fridge in addition to the cab you’re thinking about. And it’s smaller and about 25lbs lighter.

If a 2x12 is out of the question...
You have no choice. Get the 6x10 and a new, first floor domicile...or one with an elevator

An appliance or gear dolley might make your haul tolerable as it is two flights of only 5 or 6 steps.
A straight flight of 20 would be a nightmare...even with a dolley
