Moving back to Florida. So many basses...

I am driving 7 hours to buy a bass cabinet soon....I dont think I would I would blink twice over renting a U-Haul trailer to bring my basses with me or go get them....but I have about 20

Not driving currently.

I have shipped upright basses via greyhound in big cardboard boxes. If you take it to the Greyhound station and pick it up at the receiving station it’s not very expensive. I shipped one from Philadelphia to Michigan it was about $150. btw how are you getting yourself to Florida? Are you just taking a suitcase? It might be even cheaper to ship your instruments greyhound if you’re on the bus with them. Doesn’t sound like much fun but it would probably be a very economical way to get you and everything else there.

Not a bad idea. 2 day trip by bus though.

I get very bulky items shipped by the pallet-load on a bi-monthly basis from Cali to Tampa via EDI Truck Freight. The last Pallet load cost me $214. Some of the boxes are of similar size to hard bass cases. There were about 12 boxes and I'd guess that the materials weighed about 300-350 lbs max.

I'd recommend protecting the shipment as well as possible.

Edited to add that the pallets are transported from and to commercial locations with loading dock access. My experience is that residential will be somewhat higher cost.

Yeah, you should look at just putting as much of your stuff on a pallet and shipping that as possible. Not just basses, but anything you can fit on a single pallet basically.

Sell them on ebay to a friend close by for $1 you'll get significant shipping discounts (I assume, mine are often 40% discounts for UPS).

How are you getting the rest of your stuff down there? Any possibility of packing them up with the rest of your household goods?

Do you know anyone in FL who has a business and gets deliveries through railroad? Might be an option if available to you...needless to say, you'd still have to pack the heck out of them for protection.

Find someone you can pay to drive. Still cheaper and safer than shipping all those basses and the amp.

I moved from Delaware to Tampa in 2015 and put most of my basses and gear in a PODS with the rest of my possessions. Insured of course. No problems.

I would hire a moving company... you know - Atlas Van Lines or such. Under a thousand pounds in one shipment is probably going to cost you less than fussing with a bunch of small shipments. For sure a lot less hassle!

I'd try "uship." Rates often get pretty reasonable, and a real person who comes and gets them is likely to care more about your stuff than a more anonymous company would. I got a 1500 pound planer shipped to me from MN, for real cheap. Have done it with a couple other items, too.

If you go with a moving company, research the company. There is a lot of subcontracting that happens in that industry. You think you're hiring big name, reputable company but it just gets passed off onto smaller shipper that may or may not be insured. Sadly, I don't know how you can prevent this from happening. The good thing with PODS is that you know it's likely to be subcontracted and hopefully the company has those issues covered.

Here's an idea. Why not take yourself and some of your gear to Florida on a train? I don't know where you need to go in Florida but Amtrak has a big train station in Tampa and other locations in Florida. The ride is more comfortable, scenic and, faster than a bus and cost less than flying. Plus you can get up walk around and visit the lounge and dining cars. If you're willing to spend more on a ticket you can get a private room which is nice.

You can take the first two checked bags for free and additional or oversize bags are $20 each. I don't know what the limit is but trains have plenty of luggage room and weight is not an issue.

POD and U Haul both have a service where they bring a container to your location, then they deliver it to your new one. Check with your homeowners insurance carrier before doing this to make sure you’re fully covered.

I will drive with you for a bass, I have been up and down a couple of times to palm beach I 95 all the way, I will bring food as both times the food on offer was disgusting, haven’t drunk for years clean license pls pls pretty pls

Clearly, cost is an issue, elsewise a moving company would be the first and only answer.

Sell everything that you can’t carry in one trip.
