My suggestion: rent a Suburban for the drive and create room for the DB on one of your trips.

Some years ago, AES basses sent my friend his New Standard bass crated, by air freight. Here's what the container looked like. I had another friend who built one of these with his father when he moved from Switzerland to the USA. I'm sure if basses can survive those trips, you can build something to go across country in a moving truck. I've seen cardboard ones too, with dimension lumber for strength/reinforcement.
