I guess I'll play along, here's mine. Maple/Ebony neck, Ash body, Maple burl top and matching headstock, matching Ebony truss rod cover. A little on the heavy side, but jaw-dropping tone and playability for sure.

I don't mean to get off topic here, but it always bothers me a little bit when I read stuff like this. Dude, there is NOTHING wrong with a MIM P. A LOT of totally deadly tracks have been cut on a P. It's probably the most honest and pure electric bass ever made.

Anyway, if you wanna' talk more about it, start up a P thread (so this one doesn't get derailed). I'll back you up all the way. I love my P. Wish I had more opps to play it.

The hollow body is made of birds eye maple with a western, red cedar top. The neck is maple with an ebony fingerboard. This bass is 35" scale with 24 frets. The Vector bridge (piezo), designed by Ned Steinberger, has 2 modes. The second switch selects the plucked, bowed or blended mode. Enjoy the bass. It is the best one of the prototypes that was made.

The sound of this bass is truly inbelievable. It is more like trying to tame a Ferrari.

I've found a few ridiculous deals at GC. This bass wasn't abused, it was hanging up near the ceiling. Fortunately it didn't dry out. I paid a little more than they did on trade. End of the year and they had had it for over six months.

My 7 string Surine for $1,000 was a pretty bizarre deal.

Because of you I still pop into the local GC every few weeks to look for one of those killer deals that you are known for - all I ever find though is poorly set-up Warwicks and the occasional Pedulla.

I'm a dealer and I pay more for these basses than you do! :crying:

I've got to start shopping where you shop!

I haven't come across a really good deal at GC in quite a while. One reason is that I don't go there very often. The bigger reason is I'm just not looking as much as I used to in general. I pass on most deals I find anymore, the stuff I'm looking for (basses at least as interesting as what I already have) just doesn't pop up very often.

Lately I've found killer deals on basses I don't really "need".

Yeah, but those aren't plagued by that "used" word, and you know what that word does to ANY instrument no matter how fine it is. Some more than others, but always very significant.

Besides Joel, I wouldn't worry too much, you guys seem to do great in getting "the ones". I know I'm still extremely happy with my selection. I bet you guys do just fine. :)

I've heard there's an R-Bass in Chicago right now that has been through a few GC's...I guess they put it right next to a vent, and it dried out badly...putting a nice big split in the ebony board. Is this pretty common with instruments which have a long GC shelf life?

Unfortunately a student of mine bought a high end bass, from a major bass retailer, that had been allowed to dry out

It's common for any store that keeps basses for long periods of time without regard for humidity.

Lack of humidity is inexcusable in a store that sells wooden musical instruments IMO. Of course GC isn't really geared towards keeping things in store for any length of time.

Argh, I know this is off topic, but I'm tired of biting my lip on this one. I've been to a few GC's, agree with this statement, but find it very ironic.

They're not geared for keeping stuff for a long time, yet they refuse to spend the PENNIES it would take to properly setup basses to move quickly, and in some cases, even have a qualified person on hand to effectively help potential customers and close a sale. In short, they expect short sales cycles, but do NOTHING to support/enable it. I find this completely unfathomable.

I totally understand your point. I do love my P-bass, but I want to do things that it won't allow me to do. That's why I said what I said. I like to play melodies in the upper register, and my P only goes up to Eb. I'd love a high C string to do more chordal/solo stuff. I guess that's my biggest problem. I purchased the bass long before I worked on chordal playing (Thanks Mike Dimin!). If I did get my drem MTD, I think that I would still hold on to my P-bass.

That bass is soooo cool. Is Mike Tobias starting to change his design? I'm seeing different things coming from him. Some of them are posted in this thread. Do you know what's going on? There are single pup basses, and now there are neck-thru's coming out; and yours has the piezo bridge pup.

Congrats on this bass! It's so neat to look at. I noticed that even the back of the bass is great to look at. Sweet...

Please post a sound clip of this bass. :D

Many months ago I read a post that there was a poorly setup Pedulla Thuderbass at Buffalo GC. I was in that neighborhood one afternoon and decided to stop in to see if it was there (and if they set it up yet). Yup, it was there. I tried it out and it was still set up poorly! I showed the sales dude the bad action, the uneven string height, and I demonstred the poor intonation (especially on the A string). As I played it a little more, he went away and came back with an offer. He said that the bass had been sitting around for a while and he could reduce the price a bit. I said, "Thanks, but I'm not that fond of this bass." I tried out a Euro Spector that I liked more, but that's not the bass for me. I'm holding out for my MTD.
