After having not bought a new bass in well over a year, and having just paid off my new drumset I decided it was time to get a new bass. I narrowed it down for a while and finally came to the conclusion that I want to get a MTD Kingston. I'm still a little undecided on whether to get a 4 or 5 string since I've only ever owned one 5 string and didn't much care for it so I sold it after a few months. But I figure I'll give the 5er another shot cause I think I could make it work in my current band.
I've got my eye on a couple different ones and I'm not sure exactly which I'm going to buy but none of the ones I found come with a hardshell case. My band plays a fair number of shows and when we go on the road my bass gets put into a trailer with all the other gear so I definitely need a hardshell case that will hold up to some abuse. The case I use now for both my basses (Fender jazz and Ibanez RKB) is a molded Fender hardshell case. It fits my jazz perfectly and my RKB quite good since it's a Fender style bass but I doubt it'll fit the MTD and I need a second case anyway. But that is the kind of case I'm looking for, where it has the thick plastic that protects everything really good.
I'd like to keep the case in the $100 range and these are the two I found that I think would work well:
SKB Freedom case: Invalid Link Removed
Gator case: Invalid Link Removed
I've heard good things about the SKB but it's molded so I'm not sure if it would fit the MTD and I was hoping to get a case that would fit a wide variety of basses, so that if I bought a different one in the future I wouldn't have to get another case.
The Gator looks good but I've never seen one in person. I assume it would fit the MTD but since I don't have the dimensions of the body I really can't be sure. So what do you guys think? If you have an MTD Kingston 5 I'd love to know what you guys use to keep it protected, or just let me know what case you have that would probably fit an MTD K5. Thanks.
