MUDBUCKER Time

I've seen the term "mudbucker" used quite often on the various forums, what exactly is a "mudbucker? I take it it is a Gibson pickup of some sort, are there particular models & years that it was used? I'm not the biggest expert on Gibson bases, other than my Jack Casady bass, which doesn't sound the least like mud to me.

Unfortunatley, I don't have any pics from back before I swapped the Bridge/Pup.

You can see it well on the left side of the pic in post 6. These
pups were notoriously muddy. The DiMarzio Model One was
designed as the optimum replacement. I never used the
neck pup, I always used the bridge pup and EQ'ed it around
til I got the sound I liked.
