Mulling some PJ5 options ...

IMO.. if you get the Sadowsky. i think you will be happier than you can imagine.. really... !
i have a PJ5 NYC and have been using the P dailed up all the way lately.. Between this sadowsky and my alleva coppolo JJ5 i have no wants at all.. my GAS was cured !
When i ordered my newest Sadowsky , this PJ5 in 2003, Roger said it would take about 7 months... i hated the wait.. about 3 months into it i called roger with some of my concers regarding bass heaviness and weight.. i like a light bass... Roger assured me "it will be exactly as you wanted"... and sure enough it was... when i got it was and still is perfect... with INCREDIBLE customer service...I say it all the time but this sadowsky NYC has gotten me work.. engineers and sound men just fall in love with this bass..
yes they are fairly expensive... but you get what you pay for...and it is the top of the heap IMO..an instrument by which all others are compared to and before and after sales service by which all other manfactures should try to attain.
oh and it plays like buttah....
Also my NYC PJ5 has the Univeral route under the Pickguard which would allow me to have either a J -pup, a P- pup or Reverse P- pup in that bass.. of course you would have to get a pickguard for anythingother than the stock Pickup arrangement.
Now Nino had a good suggestion that is cheap.. If you like your Lakland just have a P installed..
Roger just sent me a Nordy P5 Pickup to eval against my Original Seymour Duncan P5 tha is in my sadowsky NYC bass.. I wil post my findings after this week i hope..I Loved the Duncan.. but to me it seems that the Nordy sounds a little closer to my 62 p bass.. which i like... so i will report the two soon...if i forget to report someone please remind me.. Either the Duncan or the Nordy are incredible P bass 5 Pickups though... and an inexpensive way to get that sound.. but the lakland will not sound like he sadowsky... I prefer a 34 scale.. but that is my preference... I think the 35 makes the Gstring sound like an banjo.. LOL

If you have not tried an older version Yamaha BB5000, they are a great mid priced PJ configured five string. The newer BB415 is an updated model of the BB5000 but with a more standard width on the neck.
