Multiple sized drivers in same cab....good or bad?

Does anyone know if the virtue cab drivers share air space? The way the drivers are layed out looks doubtful for isolated airspace.

Virtual, like the applet?

Or the Vector cab in the link?

In the Vector cab the 8's will be in a sealed subchamber. Don't know if the applet models differing drivers in the same cab. It's more to show what happens to sound when it comes from more than one source.

It was stated to me in a different thread that its a bad idea to have multiple sized drivers in the same cab. Manufactures only do it as a marketing ploy. Several reputable companies have built these type of cabs. Bergantino, Accugroove, and Tecamp are ones that I know of. I know people loved the Ht322 when Bergantino offered it.....but he doesn't have anything like that now.

You can't accurately generalize. There are a number of designers/builders who definitely know what they're doing, who have selected specific makes/models/sizes of drivers for a particular application in order to maximize the cab's performance. I would trust them.

But if you're referring to traditional, speakers-in-a-box bass cabs that are typically engineered about as much as guitar cabs are (which is to say 'hardly at all'), that's a different story. All bets are off.

If I like what I hear when I llisten to a cab will this change over time?

I don't see how anyone could possibly answer such a question. I certainly know nothing about your personal tastes and preferences.

Will a cab with this kind of set up damage its drivers? Amp?

If the cab is not well-designed, with suitable crossover(s) or filters set at the correct frequencies, and one then applies a good deal of power to the cab, then yes. You could blow a driver or two. The reason should be obvious.

That is what I thought too.

In that "X" pattern though, would like to see how they chambered the inside of the cab (is each speaker in it's own chamber).

Could make it like 4 separate 1-speaker each compartments inside. Then each would need its own port, unless some are running sealed.
