If you had to chose 10 basses to keep for the rest of your life... none could be added or sold...

What would be on your list and why?

If I had to choose only 10 basses I could have the rest of my life WITHOUT adding/selling anything else, they would all be various G&L L-2000s/L-2500s/ASATs with the same neck specs as my ASAT for the 4s and comparable for the 5s....as such isnt the case, variety is the spice of life

    I can only keep 10?

Only on Talkbass is that considered a low number of basses...

10 P Basses. All exactly the same.

    Edit: You know why.

I don't know, mate. I've got a T-Bird and 2 parts build basses (Jazz and Jaguar) that I'll never give up. I'm in the process of building a fretless jazz and about the only other bass I think I would 'need' after that is maybe a P-bass with flats - which I would probably build as well. I think that would cover about every tone I could ever need.

Of course, as soon as I say that, I think: it would be 'nice' to have an EBMM Sterling... T-40... Hofner... PRS Kestrel.... etc. But my appetites are pretty boring. I don't care to play more than 4 strings and I have no desire for exotic/boutique basses. I tend toward classic designs and my favorite basses are the ones that I've built, so I guess my fantasy would be to have an ample supply of materials, parts and tools, rather than 10 basses.

P bass with rounds. P bass with flats. Jazz. Jazz V. Ric. SG bass. Thunderbird. Hofner. Stingray. Wal.

Edit: -Why?.....just because you said ONLY ten were allowed ☺
  8. What that's crazy talk I say! I'd have to sell ten. At least, though I think I'd be happy to keep several like the Elrick, J.Drozd, Tobias, vintage P, custom fretless Rummian, the 60's P (avatar) Minniweather 5, a P/J, a Jazz,.......ok now I see that can't happen cause I need a couple of other things ......oh.....never mind......mumble..mumble..harrumph

    The Centennial State
    USA Spector NS-4
    USA Spector NS-2
    Fender CIJ Geddy Lee Jazz
    Fender MIJ FSR '75 Jazz
Fender Am. Std. Precision w/rosewood board

I picked these 6 because they cover a wide range of active & passive bass tones, they all play great, and I already own them.
I own others too, but these fill all my needs.

I have a Fender Steve Harris Precision arriving sometime next week, and hopefully it too will earn a spot on this list.

My Ibanez ATK305 (my MM-style-- I prefer its looks to the Sting Ray)

Passive Fender Jazz V (with better pickups than stock)

and I guess seven passive Fender P-5s in various finishes wearing hex-core rounds, .

I'm only halfway there. I probably won't get any closer.

I'd have two of Duff McKagan's spec Jazz Bass specials that have better electronics and ash bodies.

    2 MM Stingray 4 H, rosewood boards.

    2 MM Bongo 5 HH

    My Jazz Bass.

A modified Fender Aerodyne Jazz bass.

    A Warwick Streamer LX.

Another modified Aerodyne, but modified a little different.

    60s Fender jazz
    P/J 5 string
    Warwick corvette fretless
    Vigier Arpège IV 5 string
    5 string Warwick Thumb
    Kaye upright

Get me that much and I'd be pretty good already. Then I'd pack some keyboards if there was still room.

It looks like the original post was back in 2002? It would be cool for people who posted there to see if their choices have changed...
