Shoot, I don't even think I'd need 10 basses, but I'll give it a shot:

1) My early model USA Peavey Cirrus 5 string, because it's my No. 1 and fits like a glove.
2) My Ibanez BTB7E, because it's got great tone live and in studio and fun to do chord work with.
3) My early model USA Peavey Cirrus fretless 5 string, for tunes that require the expressiveness and mwah of a fretless.
4) A good Precision bass, for that gritty 'balls to the wall' growl.
5) A good Jazz bass, because in my mind, funk slap bass and Jazz basses were just meant for one another.
6) A bass with a Kahler bass tremolo, because it's just fun as hell!

That's all I can think of really lol

Have you seen the movie The Prestige? Spoilers: There's a machine designed by no other than Nicola Tesla that gets you an exact copy of whatever you put inside. So, I would put in that machine the folloging basses:

1. Juan Alderete's Fender fretless PJ bass
2. Ben Kenney's Lakland "Baby-J" 44-60 short scale
3. Jaco's Bass of Doom, but I'll have it refinished in daphne blue, with matching headstock and a white pickguard. I know, heressy
4. John Paul Jones' Fender J
5. Flea's Modulus. THE one with the stickers, yah know

Then, I'll get a

6. Fender custom shop Sean Hurley P in 3 tone sunburst with an anodized gold pickguard
7. Mike Lull JAXT4 Jeff Ament Signature

9. US Lakland 55-94 in black & maple

I say skip the jazz and get the ric. I love mine. My stingray has been my main bass for over 2 years. The ric might be on its way to becoming my main bass though.
