Muscle soreness

I'm no stranger to sore arms/back/etc. but I woke up today (2 days after a rather prodigious leg workout at the gym) and my calves feel like they're on fire when I'm not even moving -- and walking feels like torture.

What do you guys recommends for this? Maybe not so much prevention (overtraining and a lack of proper stretching did this to me, I know) but at least in a way to get it to become less painful if not cured entirely.

It's going to hurt, but stretch now. Stretch in the shower if that helps you. You'll limber up eventually, though it sounds like you're going to be hurting for a little while.

I've experienced plenty of this type of pain as a long-distance runner, and I don't think there are any easy ways to get rid of it. Do you know a good stretch for your calves?

When I get too ambitious, Aleve (naproxen) works best for me. I always take a bit more than the recommended dosage, so I can't recommend that, but Aleve seems to help me more than other such brands.

The other thing I do is get my wife to help stretch me out really well. Hurts, but it'll feel better when the muscles get loosened up.

You can also ice the area you work right after you finish. Won't help you this time, but might in the future.

Take some ibuprofin.

thats awesome, the doctor gave me that instead of me having to buy a knee brace because there was only 2 months left to the basketball season...HOLD ON SOMEONES AT THE DOOR *007 STYLE*....ok back...i survived....but anywho yea i got that for 2 months cuz i had some kind of weird thing in my knee and it KILLS, but long story short....i can dunk now =)
