Muse - Time is Running Out

Hey, I'm new here, and I would really appreciate if you could help me figure out the "Time is Running Out" bass effect. I'm aware that Chris uses an Akai synth, but that's extremely hard to find, and expensive. My set of pedals is composed by:
Boss SYB-5 synth, Big Muff Distortion, Steel Leather Bass Expander, Boss GEB-7 Equalizer, Boss CEB-3 Chorus, Source Audio Bass Envelope Filter, to which I have a Hot Hand 3 attached as a expression pedal. Any sugestion ?

There are a couple of Muse [DEL]snobs[/DEL] experts around here who will probably weigh in with the details of what Chris W. actually uses, but I have a Digitech Bass Synth Wah (also in Chris' rig), and there is a pretty close approximation in that box. I don't have it in front of me, but I think it's Type 4, Sens Min, Control Max, Range Min.

I believe i can achieve something similar using my Big Muff, and my boss SYB-5, but I can't quite figure out the setup. Do you think it may be done with these effects?

And, since I am in a Muse Cover band, I've been playing only with the BM, as said above, and it does sound nice, yet I'd like to make it better.

I have no experience with a Big Muff and extremely limited experience with an SYB-5, so I couldn't say.

Excuse me, sir, but if you're not using Animato serial 134-198 (199 and up use different rubber feet on the bottom than the one Chris uses) in line between your Pedulla Rapture Single Pickup Black (IT MUST BE BLACK IN COLOR THIS MATTERS) and your Marshall DBS amp, you shouldn't play it at all :scowl:

I APPLAUD YOU SIR. :D

Guess i'll just have to stop playing then. Hahahaha

It depends if you want to copy his live tone or studio tone. last I heard, he was only using a zvex mastotron with his clean signal blended in for his live tone. now studio, THERE is where we start going into keyboard synths and deep impacts and octave pedals and clean blend etc. etc. all this rumoured concoction of face melting tone essentially.

I'm sure Kaputsport will come around here soon to clear it up, though.

Fair enough. I actually don't think that nails it though, I think my BSW tone is closer (but still imperfect). Both are close enough for all but the [DEL]snobs[/DEL] experts though.

I never said it was better... Just offering a different option.

:)

That video was the best example I could find on YouTube after a quick search, but I can dial up a tone that, to me, is almost identical.

I might be able to record a sample on my own... If I get a chance I'll post it.

Nevermind... I guess I'll eat crow.

I just honestly listened to that tune for the first time on good phones, and I can get fairly close... but it's a lot more "synthy" than I ever noticed before.

In a bar, most people would think what i dialed up sounded just like it... But you're right. I don't think I can nail it like I thought I could.

Carry on... I've got crow to eat.

:D
