Muse - Time is Running Out

I believe setting 2 on the deep impact (thats what I use and I find it pretty damn close if not exact).

As was mentioned HAARP is the Russian Muff. I think currently he is using the mammoth for it (thats what it sounded like to me during the resistance tour, I can't remember what it sounded like during the 2nd law as I was drunk).

But to say it again. Search. Kaput has done a ton of work making an amazing thread/videos on youtube with loads of muse info.

If you wanna do it on the cheap, I'd say snag a russian muff and a LS-2.

That does sound close to it... And I'm starting to be pretty sure this conversation will end up hurting my wallet.

Let's be honest here, there are so many variables to Chris' sound that replicating it exactly is almost impossible. even if you buy every pedal he uses, they wont necessarily sound the same through your amp, your bass, strings you're using, mics, even your fingers, etc. etc... if you're playing live, the audience wont care or even notice that your tone isn't exact.

Having said that, A big part of Wolstenholme's tone is mixing his distorted signal with his clean signal, for this, the cheapest/best way to do that is with a Boss LS-2, if you search you can find one used for as low as $50. If you plan on covering Muse or even just to better your sound, definitely get an LS-2.

for the synthy 'Time is Running Out' bit, I do believe live he is using a Zvex Woolly Mammoth (with his clean signal blended in). these things are really expensive for what they do and even more so if you're only going to be using it just for this. I suggest either getting a Zvex mastotron, you can get very convincing Woolly Mammoth fuzz out of it. or find a woolly mammoth clone, Im sure you can find one fairly cheap if you search, or even better, if you're good with a soldering iron, you can find a schematic online and build one yourself. though i know cloning is a touchy subject here.

again, it doesn't really matter, you could use your BMP if you don't want to spend any more cash, but if you MUST get a convincing tone, get some sort of Woolly Mammoth variant and a Boss LS-2 to blend your dry signal in.
