1Nah, I'd rock that thing - currently using a 400 (non-plus) and a power amp to power my cabs, but they stay stationary most of the time. Been gassing for one for a while but without knowing the state of the amp I'll pass for now.
Really? I've not heard that. Have to keep that in mind when it comes time to re-tube it (provided I can get tubes for it).1
To me, the 400 is much stouter than the 400+. 400+ has some brightness that 400 can't reach but I liked the 400 much more with 6550s, both good amps. I miss my 400 dearly!
I felt the 400+ was scooped 400 had stronger mids. Of course, it depends on how you eq it, but if you have 6550s in the 400 which I don't think you can do in the 400+ which I did it was more mid stout. Thats going off memory from like 1998-2001, haven't had it in a long time with an Ampeg 810 or Eden 212 back then. I use a WD800 now, get the mids I want and a heck of a lot less weight but if I could be young again, it would be a 400+810 for me, best sound I ever got.Really? I've not heard that. Also dependent on the tubes used. I retubed my old 400+ with Shuguang 6L6s soon after I first got it (originally with the stock tubes) and it made a huge difference in presence and mid-punch (the stock 6L6s were pretty cold-biased, giving a relatively sterile sound to my ears), and certainly no lack of mids with the right EQ settings (of course with either the 400/+ the Fender tonestack has a natural mid-scoop without using either of the pullout Shift controls or graphic EQ).I felt the 400+ was scooped 400 had stronger mids.
