Music Man Caprice: True Boutique Quality

I'm looking forward to your comparison / review thread.

Thanks. I am impatiently awaiting a bunch of tracks to come back mixed/mastered so I can post how amazing the AVRI sounds with Chromes. Not sure when that will happen, but the point is -the AVRI63 is a legit beast. Can't wait to see how the Cutlass compares. I know it will have it's own thing happening, and I like that.

Good to hear. Any chance you have some clips to share?

Not presently. I'd be happy to make some though. Gotta buy a new irig!

Curious how low are you folks able to set the action on your Caprice or Cutlass?

Mine's pretty low. Definitely that "barely there" level of pressure. I tend to play it with a lighter touch and more staccato than my SR's so the neck is straight and the saddles are looooow.

Ok great, thanks. That sounds fine to me. I don't need it insanely low but I like to know it's possible. Sounds like we have similar action preferences. I think the Chromes may make that a little easier too, since they are fairly stiff.

I know "action pics" are fraught, but here's the 12th fret. Def feel like I could go lower on the E but I don't really need to. It's easy to play all around. Would imagine Caprice sets up the same, but the ones I've played were floor models and set up high with a bit of bow. Still nice though.

Since there's been some Cutlass talk and interest, I thought I'd post that there is one for sale in the classifieds right now, diamond blue / maple. It's been for sale for a while but is apparently still available. I have no connection to or knowledge of the seller or anything ... just noticed it and thought I'd post.

For Sale - EBMM Cutlass - Diamond Blue/Maple, pristine

Well, here's them clips you ordered. Unfortunately, um... I don't have much of a setup AND I have no actual idea how to demo how a bass sounds, soooo.... yeah I just sort of messed around. Hopefully you kind of get the idea - if not listen to the Joe Dart demo and pretend it's me!
(Way better with headphones)

Strings: EB Cobalt Flats

0:35 tone dimed

Thank you. That was very helpful . Your demo sounds great. I've listened to that Joe Dart demo countless times. You provided some additional techniques and tone settings that showcases the bass in other ways.
That was much appreciated .

So they finally got a Caprice at my local GC and I finally got to play one. I was super impressed. Great tones, great neck. Very powerful and punchy E string. Only issue was pronounced neck dive.

Neck dive is the only real criticism I have heard about the Caprice. I am hoping the EBMM goes to the lighter tuners they use on the Bongos. This should solve that issue

Thanks for doing that. The bass sounds fantastic. Almost sounds like Rounds on it with those cobalts.

This is a seriously sick P tone. Looking forward to getting mine even more now.

Nice. Really makes me want to try flats on my Caprice. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Cobalt flats are really amazing. Some of the tones I've gotten on tape come from basses with them. They work great on bright punchy basses like Ray's and Caprices

Yeah they sound cool. I have a new pack of Chromes I think I will start with, since that is my string of choice. I think the Chromes should be a great match too, and slightly warmer and thicker. Listening to the clips above, the Cobalts sound like they may not have the same low end as the Chromes.
