Yes, this is the bass I was looking at. I don't love the natural finish with the pau ferro fingerboard, and the photos provided are as bare minimum as it gets. I'd love for there to be another for sale here in the US so I could keep the bass I just bought as is. Cake and eating it, too. So I'm mulling buying it and doing the switch... or waiting it out to get one I like a little more.

Just joined the club. 2013 Stingray SLO Special HH in Black Cherry Burst. It is going to Sam Ash's outsourced luthier for full setup & restring before shipping, I should get it in about two weeks, maybe a bit sooner. Reverb impulse buy, got for a decent price $1100 shipped. I don't know diddly about StingRays other than playing a few used ones in stores, I will be back with a ton of questions after I get it. Excited!

It didnt do much for me either! but it seemed to fit the requirements of what your'e looking for. I'd like to find an SR5 fretless; they made a few with a piezo in the bridge. When EBMM overhauled their lineup recently allot of cool models got dropped as they downsized their offerings. I'm enjoying my G&L basses allot at the moment so I may end up with a Kiloton 5 fretless & add the piezo in later.

nice - congratulations! the white pearl provides a nice contrast. the dual HH pickup in a stingray is an incredibly versitle setup. I like mine allot (SR5 HH), there isn't much in the tonal spectrum that it cant do, and its very comfortable to play.
Yeah, the SLO Special should be a good fit for you then. I think you're going to like the Stingray. It was certainly quite the revelation for me when I got my first after playing primarily just a jazz bass for a good 10 years.
I have never let my minimal talent stop maximium GAS purchases...
My fortune was not to buy that bass. I just didn't love it. This was more a case of "Look before you leap," than "He who hesitates is lost," two of my favorite contradictory aphorisms.

something about the description of painted on frets was unsettling. While a professionally done defretting can be nice, I've seen some that are hatchet jobs. Its the kind of thing I'd have to see in person first.

Exactly. Even when it's in your hands first person, you still can't see a shim or bad wiring.
Reverb, Ebay, etc. Very sketchy when it comes to buyer protection. I've been very fortunate
on two out of eleven were "mail order brides". Both vintage MMSR. Rarely can you take it to your tech
for examination.
That seller did the bare minimum in terms of photographs or detail shots. Requests for more were met with indifference. You don't sell me instruments like that.

Hi all. Not a Stingray but here's my USA SUB w/Status neck. On the control plate, notice the "Boomerang" shape? Where the front of the control plate is slightly thicker than the rear and it isn't a true curve? It's there if you can't see it.
Almost every aftermarket control plate I see has the natural curve and NOT the Boomerang curve. The holes in the body are factory so mine isn't aftermarket.
Can I get any advice as to where I can get a proper Black Control plate to fit the current screw holes?
Below is the one I ordered and it's just all wrong. It's not thicker at front end but is at the rear where the jack should be. I tried to fit it and it only fits when turned upside down, like a lefty. This presents a problem because the nice finish and counter-sunk screw holes are on the front. I turned it upside down and the screw holes aligned properly. BUT I can't use it like this. GPF said they never heard of such an issue, of course, so I'm wondering if you can look at your SUB and tell me if your plate is similar to mine? I NEED to find a black plate to match the black neck, tuners and bridge that's on the way.

What if you return the black one you got, and buy the lefty version of it, and flip it upside down? Would that conceivably work?
No, they said they don't even carry a lefty version. These are quite hard to find in black.
