Well, that presents a more interesting twist to your history. According to the numbers I could find in a quick search, there were only three 2 band models made. "Stingray 4 2 band - 3"

Agree 100%. The only Ray I've played is mine, and I've been nothing but completely happy with its tone.

I'll also agree and it surprised me. Almost every bass I have ever owned (and there have been MANY) became an experiment in tweaking but SR5 ( along with one Yamaha TRB and a Fender Reggie Hamilton) needed nothing.

I wouldn't because I love the sound of a ray and if it's one of a kind... but, that being said, it's your bass but I would certainly hang on to that pup in case you decide to sell it. If you do the pup swap, make sure they do nice, clean work in case you ever change your mind.

I just bought a 4-string HH tobacco burst from the talkbass classifieds:

I put straplocks on it yesterday and gave it a test drive. After some truss rod and bridge adjustments to get rid of fret buzz, I was rolling and really enjoyed the feel and tone. It is definitely a big bodied bass, but the neck size is about the same as the one on my Carvin and has a fast satin finish, so it feels right to me.

Here is my 2007 Stingray 4H which I purchased new 10/27/14. While at my dealers store I called EB, and was told the bass was "born" on 08/24/2007.. My birthday! So of course I had to buy it, but when I got her home I discovered something else. My serial number of both my new Stingray, and my P bass both share the last three digits.. 477..weird. This bass was a gift from my elderly mother who wanted to give me something to remember her by after her passing. (she is 93 and suffers from congestive heart disease, and type II diabetes) it was originally purchased with the intention of being a back up to my American Vintage 58 P. As it turns out with all the weird coincidences, the sentimental value, and the fact that it just sounds awesome makes it my #1.
