I have one in classic white that weighs between 8.5 and 9 pounds. There are light ones but they seem few and far between.
Ironically, the COLOR is named Walnut. I had a '79 Sabre in this same finish. I called it "Root Beer" because that is (imho) more descriptive, but Music Man called it Walnut.
sorry to say, but I think there is at least one more out there.
Saw recently the review of that bass. At least its in German, but you get a nice impression of that killer sound (and look).
A great pair, I may sell one, both are GC exclusives Sorbet was and the El Dorado gold with the matching headstock was as well.

Just acquired this 2000 Stingray,should be here Tuesday. The pics are from the sellers Ad. I have had
Stingrays,down through the years,always go back to them. I had a Sabre,in teal green back 1985. Always loved the teal green transparent finish. Finally getting this one in teal green.

Yep the classics,are nice,IMO,Classic series,just have a different decal on the head stock, and the grey string mutes,on the tailpiece,other than that cosmetics.
They also have a gloss neck, different radius fretboard and a 2 band pre amp. More than just cosmetic differences.

and a Slab body and smaller fretwire-which I prefer. I own 2 classic's and this 1994 3 Band, the necks are super different.
I wouldn't say it's cosmetics mostly. They're all Stingrays, but there is a pretty big difference between a Classic and a "standard" SR4. Slab body, vintage radius, vintage sized frets, mute bridge, 2 band preamp, and a gloss neck finish aren't just cosmetic.
I'm down to 4 right now...a 78', a 99' SR4, and a pair of 06' SR5's. I'd only add a classic series if I could find one that weighed less than my 78'.

How light is your '78? I have had 3 classics my lightest being my sorbet at 9 pounds 10 ounces
I want to say it's 10lbs but I honestly don't remember off the top of my head. It's not bad but it's not light either. Both of my SR5's are 9lbs.
