That neck is not roasted, it's just "plain" birdseye maple. And indeed; I like it too 
. I simply like MusicMan craftsmanship and the stingray/sterling sound. It is number 4 in my stable now. I have owned and sold 5 other Stingrays before. The one I am kicking myself mostly for is the gilded white 4 string Stingray classic. But I need to play 5 string nowadays. If I only could find another 5 string Stingray classic gilded white here in Europe ...

I just received my 30th Anniversary Stingray 5 on Friday. Went to plug it in today and noticed that on the series and filter settings, the bass had a lot of static that wasn't there on Friday when I noodled a bit on it. After a minute, the static sound turned to almost no output on just those two settings, the parallel setting on the toggle seems to work ok with full output, but also seems a bit noisy. I pulled the pickguard off and do not see any discernable bad connections. I tried a couple of google searches that did not yield anything relevant. I'm going to contact EBMM customer service when they're open again, but thought I'd check here to see if anyone might know what the issue from experience.
Edit: I've now looked at the connections on the battery box and pickup, all look ok. I went and plugged it back in and it was working fine in all three modes, but then it went to static in the series and filter settings and eventually faded out. Parallel again seemed ok. I'm baffled as to what's wrong with the bass.
Edit 2: Bass sent to EBMM for repair.
Edit 3: Forgot about this post. Bass has returned from EBMM, they replaced the pickup. All is well. Just a fantastic bass!

Love the subtle sparkle. I had to get a macro lens and high contrast to even get it to pop, but under stage light it shimmers.

Overall this bass does not have the most stable neck in the world. As a matter of fact it shifts all over the place. But, it's pretty easy to adjust, and I'll admit I'm a glutton for punishment with how flat I like things.

You should hear a noticeable difference in the hi mids/treble. Parallel mode has very zingy treble and gives you the classic Stingray sound. Series mode sounds darker with emphasized lows and hi mids and much faster treble roll off. Single Mode sounds a bit barky in the hi mids (at least to my ears). I rarely use this mode.

For aaaaaages I've been umming and ahhing about re-oiling and waxing the neck, something I wanted to do but tbh was a bit scared of doing myself in case I messed something up. Well this weekend I took my bass to a guitar tech, he gave it a full MOT and service and also treated the neck for me. Yes I chickened out!
Anywho, I'm so happy with it! It feels like the new, the neck plays like butter! When I was seeking advice on whether to do it or not I was saying "But the neck feels nice now" and everyone said it would feel even better. You were all right!

Guys! I've got a question regarding tone.
I'd like to get the tone from this GAK-Demo of the rosewood necked Stingray (not as a main tone but as a tool I could use from time to time). I've got a 1997 Stingray 4 3-EQ and I can't seem to find quite the right tone.

Fresh roundwound strings (they're likely EB nickels on that bass), low action, and pluck hard.
I pretty much have the lowest action possible without the strings buzzing so much that there isn't a proper tone coming out of the instrument, put on new strings (although D'addario but aren't they the same anyway?) today and I plucked really hard, anyway it didn't sound like in this video. Any idea on EQing?
I'd raise up the action a little. You want it low but not low enough to choke out the notes.
D'Addarios sound pretty close to EB nickel. As long as they're new you'd be fine with anything.
IIRC Ernie Ball still makes their own strings (as well as other strings that are rebranded). Same with D'Addario.
Not sure on EQ. We don't know how the recording was made or what he was running through, but it all sounds like a standard Stingray tone to me.
1. Set the EQ Flat (center detant) on all 3 eq nobs.
2. Roll off the mids to between half and off.
3. This recording sounds like it is through a DI. So, DI if possible.
4. If the sound is to beefy, roll off some lows.
I find that it is better to cut eq than to boost.

I feel the same way about my Pacific Blue Burst, which is why I got a clear pickguard.
