Music Man StingRay Club | PART FIVE

Interesting, didn't know that. My previous Stingray was a vintage sunburst (with a matching headstock, yummy! :D), which has black as the outermost color in the burst and looks quite different from the last incarnation of the honeyburst. Did they have the vintage burst back in '91 as well or is that finish also a more recent addition?

Vintage Sunburst (3-colour sunburst) was already available back then.

Still waiting,for the 1991 Honeyburst Stingray,to arrive? Should be here this Tuesday,maybe Monday? Managed to find some better pictures,of the for sale ad. Might have to clean the hardware when it arrives? Looks like tuners,have oxidized/tarnished? Previous owner made mention of the condition,of the hardware.

Hi wanted to ask for advice, thought this was a good place to do so:

Have gone through many basses, played in a 3 piece that covered Rock to Hardcore. Went through a LOT of basses, but I liked the EBMM Stingray 4 H Ifound in Neptune Blue; it was gorgeous and sounded good alone, but problem was I just couldn't get it loud enough in the band.

I put this on my own inexperience, but still feel that I didn't give the bass enough of a chance when I let it go. Perhaps a 4 HH would be better for volume and punch in the mix: any thoughts? I am planning to form a heavier stoner type band soon. All thanks.

What were you playing through? How was everything set? Sounds more like a rig issue or an EQ issue to me.

Granted, my Stingray is a 5 string HH, but I still have a hard time getting my head around the idea of any Stingray not being able to produce a strong enough signal, even in a loud hardcore band. I also have an G&L-2500 and my Stingray is at least as beefy sounding as the G&L, which is one of the beefiest basses out there.

If it wasn't a lack of enough amp and/or cabinet(s), then I would have checked the battery on the Stingray before letting it go and also made sure I was NOT using a "smiley face", mid-scooped EQ.

Honestly, I think any Stingray would have enough punch to fit into ANY playing situation.


EDIT: Just noticed that I initially omitted the uppercase "NOT" above. Added that in since it kinda makes a big difference :D

At the time I was playing through a Mesa Subway D800 with an Aggie TLC comp and Darkglass B3K, with a Schroeder 12PL. Great gear. I completely put it to my inexperience: my friend is a pro bassist with decades using a Stingray, and said I HAD to be doing something wrong, but I had everything on the bass dimed, knob-wise.

Dime the mids! and flat on the other 2 knobs which has a detent in the middle of the knob rotation, if I remember correctly.

Also I've found that a single 12" won't be enough speaker for a loud drummer and 1 cranked guitar. I've tried and it just didn't cut in 3 piece rock band.
