There you go. 1978, B009 serial #. Fairly heavy. Aserious lack of midrange control and I feel like I'm going to need to get out the Boss eq. I play acoustically a lot without an amp and this bass sounds like it does through the amp naturally. It's not all in the preamp. I wasn't sure if I would like playing so close to the bridge but it's the perfect position. The pickup is not as close to the bridge as it looks.
Do I get to join???

1988 Stingray 5 in blue burst. It's had the snot played out of it, but look at the killer flame maple on this one! Bathroom scale puts it a bit over 10 pounds (my much more accurate fish scale batteries are dead). Needs a new nut, it's cracked below the D string, and probably a healthy bath of deoxit, but otherwise sounds and plays great. Definitely has a nice bit of mojo from wherever the world has taken it so far.

Looks like an real early one, blueburst turned green, no MusicMan Logo at the neckplate, low 500XX serial, bodywood is poplar and a nice flame neck. Cool.
Picked up a new SR5 today in Sapphire Black with a Rosewood board. Makes a great compliment to my Classic 5. It's surprisingly light also — double win!

I recently put up a NBD post for a 2 band single H stingray in stealth with a fretless SLO neck. Having spent some real time playing around, I just keep getting more and more pleased with the instrument. Adjusting to unlined is far less of a problem than I thought it would be, I still have a lot of work to do but it isn't some crazy impossible task. I made it through practice with no major problems, I'm getting a great sound out of it. I basically eye-balled where I thought a middle position would be for the EQ, then nudged the low up and moved the high down. Any suggestions or good reads on sorting out preamp controls would be appreciated, I'm kind of flying blind and trying to make sense out of what to do here. I'm jamming with a set of Rotosound 77's, I know they aren't the most popular set but I think they work pretty well with these basses.
I've tried a few different stingrays and always ran into the kind of "clanky" sound no matter what I tried (never did get around to tapes but flats, rounds, steel, nickel, whatever). Going fretless totally addressed that one nitpick.
It's a shame it has to be such a leap of faith to have a chance to test these out. You're lucky to find anything Stingray in a lot of shops, let alone fretless. I'm glad I took the plunge though, this is a really fun bass!

I've pretty much only ever played Fenders (and an NS2) and am regretting not getting into MM decades ago.
Still prefer those classic lines. All the right qualities no equal. My next G.A.S. fill up.
Managed to get this 1991 Stingray,and should be here next Tuesday. Anxious,as usual to get here! Will post some better pictures,once it gets here. This is a picture from the advertisement. I am having to sell couple of my MusicMan SUB's in order to justify this purchase. I have three US SUB's so need to move a couple.
Such a beautiful bass, I absolutely LOVE their honeyburst finish (my honeyburst Stingray is in my avatar and my profile picture)! But I'm pretty sure they discontinued it.
