They all look so naked! Am I the only one around here that likes the SR5 teardrop pickguard?
Good, glad we got that cleared up. What about the rest of you?

- probably more fun to discuss something that's different than the norm, but I just felt that those SR5 pickguards needed to be shown some love. I don't care how much beautiful wood they cover up (and mine is a gorgeous vintage burst), I think that signature shape is a thing of beauty all its own.
If I was Sterling Ball for a day, I would make myself the same honeyburst 5HH I have now but with a maple fingerboard, matching headstock, and with the control cavity on the back so no pick guard was needed, enabling myself to see how big a mistake it was to discontinue the honeyburst finish. 
And if it still wasn't 5:00PM yet, I'd make myself a Bongo 5HH configured the same way.

My understanding is the finishes are discontinued if they do not sell well. You should have bought more basses in that finish if you wanted to have it kept around!
Right, I get it's ultimately driven by sales and what makes them money, same as any other business. 
But, yeah, if I had the spare $million or ten to spend on bass gear then I would have been happy to buy enough of their basses in honeyburst to make that finish more profitable for them. Between the different models they've offered (and, in some cases, discontinued) recently, different pickup configurations, different necks (especially the roasted necks and the solid rosewoods!), I could have easily spent a not-so-small fortune and satisfied every EBMM urge/itch I've ever had - and then some.

I got a charcoal sparkle Stingray special 4, and I am liking the thought of a clear pickguard!
Isn't that considered a "Stary Night" finish??? Not up on all the options.
Similar but not the same. Starry Night finish was a PDN offering a few years ago. To me, has some blue in it compared to the Charcoal.
One of my Stingrays. A Dargie Delight 5 HS. Poor thing has been sitting in its case for years while I pursued other interests. The bass playing bug never leaves you, though, and I'm feeling the need to get back into it.

Agreed, a VERY cool color - and on my favorite bass (a Stingray!).
Although, I would respectfully disagree and say that the honeyburst was the finest color I've seen (I own one, maybe I'm biased?). But, I'm OK with agreeing to disagree. In the end, it's still a Stingray, and that's what's important!

I have a nice Stingray from 1991 with very little wear. Even though it is a beautiful instrument, I don't play it much anymore having switched to a G&L LB-100.
A good friend of mine wants to buy it from me but we are not sure what the price should be. Looking on Reverb, prices seem to cover a wide range, and of course these are just asking prices.
What do you think would be a fair price for this bass?

I can't argue with that! I own a dark cherry burst Stingray 4 as well, which is also a real stunner, but the Dargie is definitely my favourite.
I bought mine second hand. I loved the colour and from the moment I first saw it in about... 2007, I think? But I didn't have the money for one when they were new. A couple years later I was browsing the TB classifieds some in hopes of finding one for sale... I found one, but it was sold a few months earlier. I messaged the buyer and said "if you ever plan to sell it, I'll buy it off you". He replied with a link to another one on ebay that he'd happened to see earlier that day. I won the auction, and had it shipped from the US to Aus. One of the best purchases I ever made.

In addition to the awesome color, I really like the look of the HS pickup configuration. Much prefer it to the HH. Almost as cool as the classic H...
