From the pics it almost looks like the the trans blue has a stingray classic neck in Birdseye maple......

MM Takes extra care. They simply feel right in your hand. Check the dead spot on the g string.

The necks on the standard Stingray neck is oil-finished, so it almost feels like smooth unfinished wood. It makes them play very fast. The Classic models have a gloss-poly finished neck, which a lot of players love, too. Another thing with the Ray neck is the fretboard radius, which is 12". It makes it a bit flatter than the Fender standard of 9.5". Then there's the truss wheel adjustment, which makes relief adjustments very quick to do.Nah...one is good enough for the beginning

For the 2 basses you're considering, I prefer the look of the Black/maple, personally. If they feel and play the same, that choice comes down to you!
I never noticed any dead spots on either of my Stingrays, but that's just my experience with them.
Then you are lucky. Mine has a stone cold dead spot st the 7th fret. Not funny, i always have to Play around
It's like anything, some will and some won't. My Classic had a touch of the "weak G string" syndrome, but it sounded good live.
My classic didnt have the dreaded weak g string issue. The pre is alot quieter on the classic though. I figured that out when i was playing the classic and switched to my 3 band and the volume on the amp stayed the same and the 3 band was like twice as loud.
Im also stoked about this. My drummer works im a metal shop and hes going to make me a bunch of custom pickguards.
EBMM has a superb reputation for QC. There are no bad years. At that price, I'd jump all over one of those Stingrays. Personally, I'd go for the black and maple more for aesthetic reasons (I think it looks better). Also, it's probably less beat up that the trans teal. Assuming they are stock and in good shape, you can't miss here, IMO.
The 90s EBMM basses have some sort of magic/mojo going on...all things being equal, I'd definitely take the older one.

I would never play rock with a musicman stingray but they are decent for some hawaiian pop styles and some meditataton songs from south india.

That's unreal. Nothing (and I mean NOTHING) against EBMM today, but clearly "they don't make 'em like they used to".
