Music Man?

There have been several threads about these basses- you might want to search around a bit. One thread brought out the point that these basses are LICENSED by Ernie Ball and actually made by another manufacturer.

The general consensus seems to be that they are not as good as full-bore Ernie Ball basses but they are a good value for the price point.

Correct!

This is also the same manufacturer that will be building the new, politically-correct "MusicPerson" models, slated for release in 2012.

If you play one then play a true EBMM Sterling you'll see, feel, and hear the difference.

Of course, the EBMM new is more than double the price of a new SB-14. I'd look for a used EBMM in the $850-$950 range. Depends what your price range is of course. Play them both, then buy the one fits you best.

I dunno about basses, but this Music Man is a pretty good baritone

You can get a used Musicman Sterling in mint condition for close to that price used. Check e-bay and you'll see.

As far as the Sterling Musicman version goes I tried one at GC and it has fret sprouts but the Stingray35 version was great.

Fret sprouts mean nothing. GCs don't invest in humidifiers or up keep of their stock. At my nearest GC, there are beautiful Sterlings and SR5s that have terrible fret sprout because they have no humidifiers.
