Music Stands on Stage

But again, if you are just having fun, it's a hobby, etc then this is by no means aimed at you and you don't have to defend yourself.

I guess it depends on the type of band you are in. I use a stand on my gigs because we have over 300 songs in our repetoire and may be called to play any one of them on a given gig. Also, when I play for a wedding (over 50 a year), we are given special request that we may never play again. I am not going to shed these songs until I convert them to memory, just to play them once. I assure you I am not an amateur and nor is my band. See for yourself. www.ebetalent.com. click on the video for the band London. If we did the same 40 songs every night, I would not use charts, but the way we play, charts are necessary.

Here is the difference:

Pictures of undisputed pros using stands prove that pros sometimes use stands. Such pictures directly refute the assertion that only hobbyists uses stands.

The converse is not true. Pictures of undisputed pros playing without stands do not prove that pros always play without stands.

+1! If this thread were about logic, it wouldn't be almost 300 posts long.

Although, perhaps instead of "what's your point," we should ask of all thread participants, "What's your personal opinion, typed very VERY loudly (and also repeatedly, 'cause it looks like nobody was really convinced the first time, so they probably just didn't get it)?" ;)
