My main-player acoustic guitar has a downsized body based on the Gibson J series or "Jumbo". It's called a "Mini-Jumbo". I tried to brainstorm for another music related oxymoron, but I am having a mental block...you guys may help. No rules here, you can make one up if you have to.
Calling Youtube play-alongs "covers". I've never seen a cover band where they played along to the original recording.
How about "solo". Most of the time you're not actually playing alone. Calling an instrumental a "song". Doesn't "song" imply singing?
Heck...just the term "Soft Rock" is a good one! Matticus, I know these folks are reacking but maybe for this to be a viable thread...I think we may need to open this up to not just oxymorons but also to other terminology that doesn't make sense.
A "vintage reissue" is a brand new bass. "Baby Grand" pianos still weigh a ton and take up a good portion of a room. A friend of mine bills his band as an "upbeat blues" band. Some basses have "dark star" pickups. In a band I played in for years, just before we played I would say Ready guys? and the drummer would say "Dead ready". "The Greatful Dead" Ashdown "Little Giant" amp I'll think of more soon.
"Live DJ" "Led Zeppelin" "The Guess Who" - Everybody knows exactly who they are. "Biggie Smalls" "Vertical Horizons" "Hip Hop Culture" John Cougar song "Hurts so Good" Band "Quiet Riot"
