To those anxiously following this soap opera, an update from yesterday's e-mail:

=================

> What happened with MF?

Dude, the entire shipment got smashed & trashed en route and finally just completely busted open in the UPS truck yesterday and went all over the floor, a total mess! The guitar and everything. The entire contents of the box went out on the floor of the truck where it rolled around all day. The guy didn't even try to deliver it. They swept it all out and went through it last night at the terminal and crosschecked against the invoice, and miraculously they seem to have found it all. Honestly, it looked like the shipment had been carbombed, it was that bad. Everything was out of their packages for some reason, pieces everywhere, dirt, dust, filth, floor sweepings, trash, empty torn bags and crushed boxes - everything I ordered was in pieces. Miraculously, the guitar only had some superficial scratches. They just poured everything back in the big, torn-up box and taped it up.

I've never, ever seen anything like this, honestly. Never.

============

It turns out that there may be a few pieces missing from a microphone stand, but other than that, it's all there.

I've ordered a few things from MF (case, music stand) and they have all shipped quickly, arrived in good shape, and been exactly as described. Their shipper of choice, UPS, does somethings right (like providing tracking service) even if their employees think "Fragile" is an Italian word meaning "throw forcefully to the ground".

P.S. I worked for UPS during college and don't actually speak Italian. :D

I think you do speak Italian. I did a month in Italy. Instead of traveling with a gig bag on the plane, I decided to use my coffin, and let the hired help deal with it - they really did it in. I think of them fondly every time I see that little crack in the headstock :bawl: :bawl:

I have ordered thousands of dollars in gear from MF over the years. Guitars, Basses, Amps, Sax, Keyboard, FX, ...etc for myself and my kids. In all circumstances, I have been very happy. I had one guitar get damaged during shipping, and it was handled promptly. Their price match policy is nice, and shipping has always been done well. More than I can say for the "local" shops, with their high prices (and unwilling to go below 5-10% off), bad service, and instruments that are all beat up...

I've had really good luck with MF and will use them in the future.

I have also used AMS, who are really good as well. More limited selection, but equally as good! I for one am glad that I am not enslaved to my local dealers (for all the reasons above), and that options abound. I also have ordered from the Bass Northwests, etc. of the world...they were great too!

I got a lefty MTD Kingston last year (before Mike pulled the line from them) it was almost 50% off...but came in with the nut in backwards, the frets sticking out and so sharp they actually cut skin and the tone knob not working.....at first they told me "they'd take off $15 and to go have it set up"! After I told them I'd rather send it back they took off another $150!!!!!! So, not too bad for about $199 net!!! Then MTD fixed all the problems for me! Great company (MTD).
Other than that problem, MF.com has been easy to deal with.

I've bought some mic cables, a couple cymbals, and a bass combo, and never had any problems with shipping. The stuff comes very quickly, and the packing is top notch. I think they have a pretty good return policy too.

Jake

Well, I had some issue with the Bass they sent me while back. It was Fender Jazz Fretless and the fret board was showing some milage on it. Apparently it was a returned instrument but they charged me full price. So... I returned it back.

Dear Shark,

Please know that I'm genuinely NOT trying to put you on the spot but I'd like to ask you for the name of a single shop that sells MI at 5-10% off. You're more than welcome to E-me with any info that you'd care to share. I can't imagine that a dealer could stay in business for a single day if they're discounting like that. Thanks for the help. :)
