Musicman no longer including hardshell cases?

It makes sense when you think about it. A lot of the boutique high priced bass companies really aren’t very big companies, and while their pricing is high, their profit margins probably aren’t. They wouldn’t be able to afford cases in bulk like a huge company such as Fender could.

Of course they are going to pitch it in a positive light, who wouldn’t? And as we see in this thread, plenty of people are fine with it and some are not. If they are smart, they did the math and it made sense to go this route.

Look at Nash .. their HSC is marvellous and useful; they aren’t exactly a big company for big production numbers but they include it as a standard and they are being a serious manufacturer in doing this IMO.

True, there will always be some doing it. To be fair though, it's also a lot easier to afford to do it when you are making Fender shaped objects. When you get in to boutique bass companies with original designs, it's not necessarily as easy or affordable. Nash, while not exactly big, also isn't exactly small. They have over 70 dealers in the United States alone.

When you pay 4/7k of your hard earned dollars for an instrument, artisans of luthiers work aside, you’ll be grateful and you’ll smile seeing a nice HSC given to you together with the boutique bass you’ve always wanted .. at least I would do so.
Sadowsky assembles instruments as Nash does; Nash gives a HSC and this is a plus for his service indeed.
Sadowsky gives you a semi-hard case IIRC which is not the same but something towards it.
Here we’re talking about a brand fabricating mass-produced instruments, which, as it is right IMO, has always delivered their products contained into solid cases since 1976, which abruptly stated that they will deliberately downgrade their service in the near future by replacing their HSC with soft cases !!!
I truly don’t believe this is a very wise move commercially.
