So I gigged with my Sabre and my Sadowsky RV5 tonight, into a Creative Audio Grizzly, then a Mesa D800 and two Aggy GS112 cabs. I too noticed that the Sabre was quieter. So I kicked in my Fultone Fat Boost 3, and the volume difference was gone!
BTW, switch positions 1 (from bridge), 2 and 3 are so awesome! I used 2 & 3 most of the night. Just awesome HB punch with a little SC shimmer.

My Sabre has slightly lower output than my P, but it's easily solved - I just turn the volume knob of my P down a little.
I have a potential electrical issue with my Sabre. When I run my finger lightly along the strings or any metal part connected to the electronics, I hear a slight crackle like static. The crackling stops if I touch the strings or a metal part of the bass, such as the bridge or the control pots with the other hand. It's normally fairly faint, but definitely noticeable, and increases if I turn up the gain or the treble. I think I've eliminated most of the possible external causes. I've switched out the battery, instrument cable, amp, and power cable. The control cavity has been re-shielded by a competent tech. The crackling's still there. I have two other basses, a passive P and an active EBMM SUB, none of which display the same symptoms, so I can probably rule out problems with the power in my house. Anyone else experience this with Sabres?
Sorry to hear this. I've not had this problem with my Sabre. Has your tech looked into this problem?
That was the reason for the re-shielding, but it doesn't seem to have done the trick.
That is quite possible. Musicman Customer Service has sent me a wiring diagram with a possible fix. I have no knowledge of electronics myself, so I don't know if it will work or not. Apparently it involves moving two wires and adding a ground lug in the control cavity.
Is that _two_ separate grounds? One to the bridge and another to an added ground lug? Interesting...

I just received my new Sledge Sabre, a sleeping beauty which spent, what ?, 3 years in a dealer shop here in France before a rebate I couldn't resist to. First impressions : I love it !
Just one question : the output of the neck PUP is much less than the bridge PUP output. Is that normal ? I checked the heights and they are as per MM specs. Just wondering.
Edit : watched a demo of pup configuration on the classic sabre and volume drops on position 4 & 5. I guess it's normal then.

OK, so the Sabre arrived today. Very nice. Especially after a new set of strings and a fresh battery. The one in it was pretty much dead.
