Musicman Stingray Club, Part II!

I have become enamoured with my SR5. This is quite unexpected since I never really liked the 4 stringers much and picked this up on an impulse. It just delivers on so many levels. It sets up beautifully and has that soft bouncy feel of a good EBMM bass.

One problem I am having is that the neck relief shifts regularly and sometimes quite a lot in a short period of time. :hmm: Is this typical for the unfinished necks? I have it pretty well oiled. Is there anything I can do to minimize the neck shifting?

That seems odd for Colorado since the weather there is typically dry this time of year. Isn't it...other than the thunderstorms.

I do have to make very minor adjustments to mine but I have my strings almost flat on the neck. Crazy low setup with no buzzing anywhere.

Very true. Our practice room is a cool somewhat humid basement vs the hot dry third floor apartment where I live and normally store the bass. I can't keep it in one place where it is nicely adjusted then leave it is the other for an extended period.

What with the really accessable truss rod adjuster it typically is merely a slight turn either way. I'm sure in my case it's because I have the strings rediculously low with virtually no relief. I also kinda figured, in my case, that with the crazy birdseye maple on the neck might have something to do with it.

Another thing might be the strings. Depending on the tension of the strings might be causing more movement.

New to 2 band stingrays.....what are some typical settings? Start at 50% and go from there?

I'll probably just fiddle with it until it sounds good, but input from others can't hurt.

Could you guys check out my thread and help me out with some Stingray questions? Thanks!

I posted a couple thoughts over there! BTW, those certainly aren't silly questions.

For anyone else who might have questions about Stingrays, you're certainly welcome to post them here directly! Like me, I'm sure a lot of people in this thread are subscribed and would be happy to answer questions like Essentre's!

5sg.

SWEET! On my 2-band I tend to run the bass all the way up and the treble at about 30%. And I am using DR Highbeams.

That's what I do, and I don't move the knobs much either way from there. I find the 2-band is easier to get "the tone" out of than the 3-band.

Sorry guys.....I sorta lied to avoid a really long story.

I actually have a 3 band. :o:D

It's a John East 3 band preamp. Suppose to be like a 2 band with the mid set flat.
Never had the stock preamp or pickup.....so I cannot really provide any comparison. :(

Just not used to no detents on the bass and treble controls.
