MXR Bass Fuzz Deluxe---I'm digging it

If you crank your fuzz up way louder than the preamp you might burn them out at a slightly quicker rate, but if you keep some sort of unity gain with your clean sound to where you're not just slamming the preamp, the effect on pre tubes would be negligible at best. At any rate, whatever it takes to get your sound. Preamp tubes aren't too expensive unless you're buying NOS.

For those interested, my fave setting on the BFD is Dry 12 O'clock, Wet 2 O'clock, Tone 2 O'clock and Fuzz 4 O'clock (almost to the max but not quite). It does better at higher gain settings, you just need to find the right balance Wet Dry to be bass supportive and work on achieving unity gain. Fuzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Jimmy, got mine yesterday and still a bit of tweaking ahead, but I gave your settings a go and the BFD sounds killer
Glad it's working for you, but since then, I've mellowed out a little with diming the fuzz...gets a little hard to control feedback in a live environment with too much fuzz, even with my piddly volume settings ;)

i bought this pedal few weeks ago and the first time i used it in a band situation, the fuzz tone was lost in the mix.
Yesterday was my second use in the studio and things were better after boosting the mids and adjusting the pedal tone at 1-2 o'clock instead of 9-10 i put it the first time. Everyone could hear it in the band.

In my opinion, if you play in a band that plays in C standard and the guitarists use fuzz pedals too and their neck pickups, there is no way for the bass to be heard as a bass. There will be "a wall" of guitar and bass but it's hard to hear each instrument separately. Like almost every stone rock band.
