My Bass burnt me?

My bass literally burnt my skin and left a mark!

I was sitting down playing my bass in my chair and I dropped a pencil on the floor. I leaned over to reach it with my forearm dampening my strings (Because it hums when nothing is touching it).

I then felt a pinch. I thought I got a papercut but my bass left a mark on my arm.

Afterwards, I touched the strings and it was pretty hot and I got a static discharge.

Is there a loose wire in the harness somewhere? My fingers were not wet nor was my feet wet. I was playing for about 2 hours before this happened.

The bass that did this is my SX jazz.

I really dont mean to sound like a wuss haha but I am just wondering.

Did this happen to anyone else here?

Bad ground at your amp, more than likely. Shocks (which can burn) commonly result from a bad AC ground.

I just tried the amp again on my ibanez but I didnt get shocked?

Get a low Voltage capacitor for your tone pots so it can act as a fuse in case the sort circuit shock hits you harder next time! Quite a few guys died that way (electric shock with microphone and guitar).

Yea better check outlets, to make sure they are grounded. Is it an old amp, new, amp or what?

I'll bet the shock happened the instant you touched the floor and that the floor was concrete.

Get the AC outlet wired correctly before it kills someone.

Are you sure "quite a few guys died that way?" From what I've read, this is highly exaggerated.

We played this little dive in the middle of nowhere in the midwest, terrible grounding in the building, all the amps hummed badly. I stepped up to my mic (while playing my bass) and about blew my lips off!!! Major shock...Ouch!!
