My 'basstasters' for Jazz pickups

David recently confirmed that the Bartolini CB pickups in this test were in fact the 9CBJD humbucking type.

I have a set of single coil 9CBJS on their way which will be installed in my SX SJB-75. Review to follow....

Also, it crossed my mind that it might be easier to compare the various pickups if the recording levels were normalized. Perhaps I could normalize the samples if there is enough interest.

Thanks matey!! You helped me make up my mind.

I have ordered 5 string Villex jass style pickups plus their proprietary rotary mid sweep passive for my soon-to-be-completed Sei Singlecut fretless 5 string - yippee!!!

Really cool. Having played a few (and not having been impressed with anything than some designs and the good build quality), I have no doubt that this will be one of the (if not the) best sounding sei basses to date. This thread also helped me a lot, and that's what's probably going in my new dingwall as well.

The DiMarzio Model J sample does definitely sound pretty wrong! Either not wired properly or something else - sounds like a thin bridge pickup all the time (or something like a Warwick Thumb like somebody else said).

Great job though :smug: all the .zip's went straight on my hard drive - if everybody else is wondering how the Model J's compare to the others sample wise, from my experience in my MM (I know that's a slightly roundabout comparison) the Aero sound clip sounds very curiously like my bass with Model J's recorded direct.

yeah those definitely sound like theyre wired out of phase

Darn ! This is a great resource for hearing an example of what your are going to buy before to put the money on the cart...

Thanks ! I made an almost blind decision in buying my Dimarzio Ultrajazz pickups (still have not arrived) but now by hearing this they are truly my favorite and i know i took the right decision.

My favs = Dimarzio Ultrajazz, EMG JV, SD Ant II

I thought that the Norstrand sounded better... they are a 230$ pickup set for god sake !... they are somewhat lacking of punch, output and Dynamics.
