My belt killed my ric :( Help needed!

a lot of you guys are equating one night's worth of accidental brutality with "mojo".

that's not how it works, fellas.

Some guys call it mojo. Some guys call it scars, scratches.

I agree with Mccartneyman. You can have an old , very used instrument without belt buckle rash. It could be worn, some places even without paint (really really well worn) .

IMHO, belt buckle rash sucks. I saw fantastic basses on ebay and then in a photo it´s there : A fantastic belt buckle rash. I quit that ad instantaneously.

yeah, that's sorta what i was saying too. if you get -playing wear- on the instrument, from playing it a lot, then yeah, that'd qualify as some mojo.

but unless you're doing a belt solo, buckle rash is just buckle rash.

Well, for the record, the buckle rash on the back of my Ric in the photo was caused by the previous owner, but . . . I don't get worked up over it. I probably couldn't have afforded it at the time if it had been mint when I bought it.l

I could (and still do) cringe over every ding or dent I accidentally put on my Sadowsky, but ultimately I have decided that it's part of gigging and don't beat myself up too much over it.

Ultimately, the OP has to do that as well. Resolve to never wear belt buckles if you want, or cover up with a heavier shirt, or whatever. But dings and scratches WILL happen, even when you're extremely careful.

Having buckle rash means you're too lazy or too dumb to avoid it.

However, I think there are probably a number of others here at TB who don't enjoy being called "dumb" for their wardrobe choices. Personally, I cover up any belt I might be wearing when I'm playing, but I'm not going to insult someone else for not doing it.

Don't think of the belt buckle rash as damaging your Ric ... Now you have the more expensive "Road Worn" version of the bass ...

Or people could just untuck their shirt in the front. A solution that neither involves holding the bass uncomfortably nor buying anything.

Sadly, most shirts will not prevent buckle damage (or bluejean rivet damage) when untucked. I've found that the best way to prevent buckle/rivet rash is to not wear a belt, or put the buckle way around the opposite side of your waist, and/or take a hammer and pound your jean rivets flat. My basses have zero rash. Of course, this means I can't wear my big ol' Peterbilt buckle while performing. ;)

P.S. Just kidding. I don't own a Peterbilt buckle.

Really? All of my basses are rash free. Of course, I don't own a huge belt buckle like some people do. But I do wear jeans a lot. It's never been a problem at all for me.

Who cares???

Who sees the back of the bass, except the player who sits there and looks at it and says, "Wow, my belt scratched my bass!"?

Real bass players know it's the front of the bass that matters most, and how you play it.

Just be glad it was YOU who did it!!:p
