My Big Brother....(Bass Stack Content)

plus 7 colors of vinyl to choose from, adding rack plate and matching head case would put it over budget just a tad.

Does your big brother realize that NOBODY looks at the bass rig except bass players and soundmen? Is the look really that important? Sorry, this is coming from someone who never thought for a moment the look of a bass rig actually mattered.

With a $1300 budget for new gear, I feel like either the head or the cabinets are going to be some sort of compromise in cost. I suggest he adds a $1000 to that budget so he can get some higher quality gear. Is he part of a national touring act? Just starting out? Cover band?

I also agree with the LDS cab idea.

I agree with you 100% but any suggestions I make re: size will fall on deaf ears. I even offered up one of my two Acme rigs....no dice.

Think I've talked him into expanding his budget so near-pro level gear may not be out of range. He's in a cover band; not sure how frequently he gigs. True identity: retired Chief Comptroller for the Marines at Quantico, almost 60 y.o., grandfather of two, and a widower. If he wants a pair of SVT stacks to pedal root-V to Johnny Cash tunes, its okay by me.

You can also have different tolexes and grills w/ LDS too, so you get the aesthetic similarity to a particular head. For example, if your brother really liked Orange heads, he could get an orange tolex w/ black grillcloth from LDS at lower cost than what a company would sell, and better design and quality IMO. Just an example, you can sub anything that you like.

orange is the way to go for the "look at me" factor... but you'll never get it with that budget.

Think he's gonna opt for basic black. I suggested the Hartke HyDrive early in the game. His response: too flashy, too much chrome (?). I thought it was fairly tame considering some of the stuff on the market.

I wanted to shoot him years ago but mom and dad said "no".

Would you please specify which components? I'm only familar with the 2001 RBP preamp.

Edit: I'm compiling pics , specs, and prices. Jan's gonna get a long-assed e-mail in a couple of days!

Thanks

Sorry....been away.
criteria; new, full stack, quality, $1300 = hard to do, but....
2 GK 212 Neo II; $1100
1 GK Backline 600 $300 = $1400

or; GK 700RB $600 = $1700
(you can probably save another $100-$300 by requesting a quote from RMC) [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Update (and I can blame this all my brother): Jan decided to kick in some addt'l bucks and his 1000 watt / dual 4 X 10 rig is en route. I'm not gonna tell you waht it is, either....well, not yet anyway. Should arrive at my house this week and I'll drive it up this weekend. I'll post pics ASAP so you can see for yourself.

I know what you're saying..."I thought he wanted a 4 X 10, 1 X 15 stack; what happened?". The 1 X 15 was on backorder so he said "scrap it" and bought two 4 X 10 cabs instead. The powers-to-be asked "where's this guy playing?!?". When I told them nursing homes, BBQ's, fraternal organizations, campgrounds; they about passed out.

I would look for some older Peavy gear, Very well built and lots of bang for your $. Here is my rig, one of the Hiwatt DR201s was photo shopped in (a guy can dream right ?) but the rest is real.
