my black bronco with reddish tort pickguard.

why such a cheap bass, you ask?

i love the black with that pickguard, the neck is comfy and fast, unlike some broncos, this one arrived intonated, the size is super comfortable but with more fingerboard room than a 28.6" bass, and the pickup... well, something's up with it. i've owned 3 broncos and played many. the rest have your average single coil noise, which makes sense as a bronco has a single single coil pickup. but for some reason, this one is pretty much silent. and that stock pickup sounds better to my ears than any of the others i've played including the other bronco i played through the exact same rig.

what's your current number 1 and why?

Ever since I bought it (2003) it has been my main player.

It's a one pup, two pots, passive rockmonster aaaand it's fretless.

I wish I could tell you that I get hired because I am such a terrific fretless player.

But usually when I ask which bass to bring, they just tell me to bring the red one.

(all my others are blond natural finishes)

I'm not a collector, so having a highly versatile main with loads of tonal options is key. Otherwise I'd be constantly selling and buying basses as my tastes changed

Why? Super-slim 'thin D' gloss-finish bird-eye neck modified to 12" radius, perfect strap balance, East preamp and Delano MC-4-FE ceramic pickup. Nothing else comes close

Wisebass, that is almost exactly what I had in mind for a Sandberg! Yours is a Basic lined fretless...mine would be a Classic but with the single humbucker in the Basic position, and lined fretless as well.

Still this 2016 Hammersmith PJ, though I added a Hipshot Double Stop Bass Xtender and replaced the bridge with a Fender bent plate. Brought it down to 7 1/4 lbs!

I have a CD of George Duke playing all the Charlie Brown music on solo piano. Thanksgiving has always been my favorite. I took that CD camping once and some kids came to our campsite wondering where the cartoons were.
