why such a cheap bass, you ask?

i love the black with that pickguard, the neck is comfy and fast, unlike some broncos, this one arrived intonated, the size is super comfortable but with more fingerboard room than a 28.6" bass, and the pickup... well, something's up with it. i've owned 3 broncos and played many. the rest have your average single coil noise, which makes sense as a bronco has a single single coil pickup. but for some reason, this one is pretty much silent. and that stock pickup sounds better to my ears than any of the others i've played including the other bronco i played through the exact same rig.

what's your current number 1 and why?

Mine for the last 19 years is my MIA Fender PBj. Fits the music I play the most perfectly.

My ‘93 Warwick Streamer/Jimmy Earl (ish). It’s a different wood recipe than most Warwicks and is fabulously versatile with the SD setup. Can easily do the modern thing, but can also lay back for some old school thump. It has supplanted my trusty Warwick ProM, which is also fabulous but also a more aggressive beast.

My "parts bass"... a 2015 Custom Shop '59 body with 2018 AVRI replacement neck.
I've taken the covers and mute off a few times but always end up putting them back on within a day. I've got Chromes 105-50 on it - same as the Floor Traveler - something else I've always returned to. The sound and playability of this bass is exceptional! Weight is just under 8.5 lbs. Super-resonant!

Sandberg California TT-5 Superlight, bought in December 2022. Since getting this, I've barely played my others. I love J-basses and often need/want a five, and this one is incredibly light with great playability. The tone is excellent too, and works for everything. (I would like slightly more punch from the A string though. Why no raised poles? Ugh.) For my current projects, I walk almost a mile to rehearsals and shows, and the light weight pays huge dividends there.

For tone and feel, I would often prefer my G&L M-2500, but now that I'm used to the Sandberg it's tough to go back to something that heavy.

Got a few that rotate, but this would be the most grabbed of them - "The BallBuster."
It was designed to take everything my SR5 does and then outdo it, succeeding in the most glorious ways.

Status Graphite neck, quad coil Nordy BigMan, Nordy 3B preamp with 3-way mid select, rotary 4 way pickup switch, passive tone and bypass. Hipshot A bridge, mounted to a brass block inlaid in the body.
And of course, chambered mahogany body with bookmatched birdseye maple top.

If this bass can't do it for me, then no bass can do it for me. So that is why it's my first grab.

My current #1, a 2018 Spector NS-5XL (Wide5) built for Bryan Beller. The bass is technically an Alex Webster US model prototype, as Bryan had it built to most of the specs of the Euro AW model. I modded it out, put some gold hardware on there, EMG-X pickups and a SNC HAZ clone preamp. The bass is an absolute beast, plays and sounds amazing. You are a fool for selling it Beller!! (He’s into Lull’s now, I get it )
