I can't believe that you soak and amp in air freshener innocently.

And, heck, if the OP didn't do the gig in first place, or never owned the amp, it wouldn't have happened. Maybe it's his fault that his father was upset, but it entirely his father's fault for reacting in such an inappropriate way.
Dude, quit coming to the defense of the OP when you know little to nothing of the scenario. Its obvious to me that you don't have a lazy clued-out son who just can't seem to learn respect despite the million and a half lessons that have been demonstrated over his entire lifetime. You assume the OP has just laid this out and OMG its like, SO unfair!

Sure, dad did something that in your view was disrespectful. But how about all the times the OP said he would follow through on committments and respect the needs of others in the home and then didn't? I guess that wasn't laid out in this thread, but then again, very little information was.

My neighbour's kid blabbed all over facebook about how his mean old dad ruined his macbook and "didn't even care". The reality was not posted up for everyone to view, and that was he left his macbook in a massive pile of clothes that his dad had been asking him to move for two weeks. When he finally dumped it into the washing machine, lo and behold the macbook was in there. That doesn't make dad a mean old dumbass, it reflects the previous behaviour of his son!

Just a couple of cents for consideration...

I'm afraid I can't agree with the people here defending the father. Yeah, ok it's his house, and the amp is smelling it all up. That doesn't mean you do a dumbs**t thing like that. There are definitely solutions other than that crap. And the first step towards any of them would be consulting the owner of the amp. I would be f***ing PISSED if anyone did that to my stuff, and all of you would, too. And I would let whoever did it know, too, be it my father or whoever, at the top of my lungs. As well as hold them responsible for ANY damage. Just because he's a parent and he owns the house doesn't give him the right to treat you and your things like dirt. Totally unfair, disrespectful, thoughtless, and downright mean of the dad. Because of a little smell? Get the heck over yourself, pops.

There's more to the story than what the OP posted.

To some extent I agree however the smoking laws were introduced not to protect the patrons of an establishment but the workers there who cannot leave. It is a matter of work place safety. There are too many instances of non smoking staff with lungs in a worse condition than an actual smoker. The filter does cut a large proportion of the harmful chemicals from entering the lungs but everyone else get the whole shebang! Many have passed away from the effects of second hand smoke!

So what makes you think YOU know more about this scenario than he does?
The father in your story sounds like a dumbass to me too. Why couldnt he just MOVE the Macbook? I understand it was the kid's to move but he is a KID. Destroying something valuable is never worth making a point.

And obviously, you understand the scenario so much better than I do :eyebrow: ?? Why are we assuming that the OP is a good-for-nothing punk-ass jerk? I don't have any idea where you're getting that impression. Thanks for mocking me, too. That definitely made your point seem more valid.

Destroying equipment is not teaching a lesson. It's nothing but spiteful.

And, wow, I'm sorry about your neighbors' kid :eyebrow: It's a totally different situation if the destruction was accidental and the destroyer was even unaware.

Man up and live by your dad's rules, or get your own place.

I had my own place but its tough paying for school + car + own place + all bills etc while being a full time student and only bein able to get 30 hours a week so i moved home.

Some of you guys think i must be some lazy punk kid or something. Im 23 years old. I just got out of the shower and my dad says gotta move your stuff it smells. Im like hold on ill be down in a few. Get dressed, contacts, etc. Come down and hes sprayin my baby.

It wasnt him trying to prove a point, its just my dad isnt good with electronics. he can barely work his cell phone. so to all of you trying to say live by his rules and stuff- get over yourselves.

It was a stupid mistake and I just wanna know if anyone has had this kinda thing happen- so i appreciate the comments and tips. But for whoever else is just defending a dads point of view, you can do that in another topic.

I don't see why parents can't have some respect for their kids. They would never put up with someone treating them with the bull crap.

"Hey, dad, I don't like how you give me an early curfew, so I'm going to break all the clocks in the house."

Because your parents raise you, clothe you, feed you, discipline you, and pay for your sorry ass through most of your life.
Maybe if the child would show some discipline the parent would have more respect? Just a thought.

I love how a simple question about dealing with a slightly dampened piece of electronic equipment has devolved into 4+ pages of father/son angst with a divergence into the efficacy of smoking bans.

Classic.

And for the record, this is why people create so many redundant threads instead of doing a search - because the information they seek is buried in countless pages of irrelevant commentary (which now includes mine).

Finally, a fuller picture emerges. Moses, Burlington, my post above was making a point. The point was NOT to jump on either bandwagon because there wasn't enough information yet. And no one mocked you Moses...
