Lookin great, now how does it sound?

All these clips were recording straight into a M-Audio Mobilepre into Sonar 6 Producers Edition with just enough compression to compensate for my horrible right hand technique (except for the last clips where I use a Sansamp). As you can tell when listening to these clips, there’s no editing, just me sucking, playing an incredible bass. I play the same lame bassline on all the clips so you can hear the versatility of the bass.

My favorite part of this bass is that the preamp is colorless. This is what the bass sounds like going from Link Removed. Notice the only thing that changes is the volume.

Neck at 75% and Bridge at 100% with the Bass at 100% and the Treble at 75%
Neck at 100% and Bridge off with the Bass at 100% and the Treble at 75%


I personally play harder rock/metal, so I like a little grit to my tone, so here are a couple of sound settings running through a Sansamp BDDI.

Thanks! You're not missing anything by the recordings, trust me . I haven't used it yet. I'm still toying with the EQ a bit and waiting on a part or two before it's totally finished.

Hey Beav, quick Q. How is it that Brian gets away without using any shielding tape or paint whatsoever on the LEJ's? Is there any excess noise, i.e. hum or buzz say when you aren't touching the strings?

You know, I've never figured it out. The wiring doesn't have any tricks to it. I asked him and he told me it was something to do with modern electronics or something. Whatever it is, it's dead quiet unless you're sitting right in front of a laptop or too close to a TV.

I just forwarded this question to Brian and here's his answer.

The pickups are complete encased in a mold and internally shielded and grounded. A lot of times noise is created from ground loops and its a matter of wiring the pre and pots all so not to create a ground loop inside.
