My first real rig!!!!

Seems like a great price. But most players are downsizing, these days, and have been for quite a while.

While a refrigerator is a great cab, it is not used that often in most club or any venues other than out doors or big theater gigs. And those type of gigs usually have FOH to carry the room.

I have been downsizing over the years, and have some killer stuff. In fact, I was using a Demeter HPB1 preamp into a Crown XLS1500 (BTW many folks thought the XLS1000 wasn't enough). But that was many years ago.

Smaller amp set ups have become more powerful, better sounding, and can cover way more than they used to.

That large of a set up, is back breaking to move and takes up tons of space.

And if you ever go to sell the Refrig and that large Rack set up, it will not get many takers. As this is not the direction many players are going these days.

And to show what I used to lug around, here is the pic of the last incarnation of the rack rig with the XLS1500. Three cabs, three 10s, and three twelves. And that cab set up had shifted from a 410 Hartke, 210 Harke, and 115 Hartke. Oh yeah, the pic was from over ten years ago.

Anything you get that you don't want to keep, you sell individually, and use the cash to buy the piece you want instead. like, sell the pedal and buy the rack version sansamp.

but I Think you'll be very happy with it for a long time as it is.

I also wanted to point out that I hate the fact that my rack case weighs more than the gear it's carrying. Seems totally unnecessary to me. I am always on the lookout for very light weight component racks that dont' cost as much as a small amp.... hard to find.

For now, I'd stick with it - hope it's awesome!

Asking the real question: Horde  or Alliance :vomit:?

Sadly, Alliance so don't throw up on me

I get that people are downsizing nowadays for sure. But the music that I wanna play that would in the vein of Converge, Neurosis and Pelican would definitely be difficult with a 1x12 cab. So I definitely understand that which is why I gotta hit the gym some more

I should be happy with this for sure. I just need to figure out whether this pedal is giving me all the juice I need. For my practice room, I'd say yeah. For live shows in the future? Idk.

It only comes as a set. He doesn't want to piece it out. I was trying to do that actually but no dice. I could always just sell the rack, power amp and tuner or trade for a head of some sort. Options, options.

Do that. For 600usd, what the hell, this is free!

Here in EU, you could only hope to get that cab for that money and even that would be a bit generous almost.

Here in the USA, cabs like that can
Be had cheap. So there's no reason to
Rush. Same with rack gear. In a few
Yrs, those bass rigs will still be inexpensive.
Moving that up a stairway will
Get old quick.

My current gig rig is dual cab Schroeders three twelve set up with a Berg B|Amp. Covers hard hitting drummer with a 6 piece band and a lead guitar with dual Mesas (8 twelves). The cabs are Neos that weigh 28 lbs, and 34 lbs. Using a Genzler MG800 and an Epifani 310 UL in the rehearsal room. I can't deal with the large heavy stuff any more.

It's a good price
Okay, so this isn't a troll post! I haven't posted here in a while since I lost a bit of interest in playing over the past few years. However, I came across a deal that I need a bit of help with. You see, I sold all of my gear and really haven't played bass in almost 5 years, so whenever a friend of mine told me about a rig for sale, I kind of didn't know what to say or do. I don't know much about gear from a technical standpoint and decided that I would come here first.

I am going to look at an Ampeg 6x10 with a 6 space rack, Crown XLS 1000, Korg DTR 2000, and a Tech 21 Sansamp this Sunday. We talked a bit and if I pick it up, he said I could have it all for $600. I ordered a new G&L Kiloton Tribute bass today and that should be here by Saturday afternoon. So I will be taking that bass to try everything out since he apparently doesn't own a bass anymore. He is a guitar player and the rig is actually his brothers.

My question here is if everything is in working order, do you think the price is fair? I am looking to play rock mostly and mainly with a pick. So I thought this rig might be a good option for myself going forward. I have just been outta the loop on gear and the bass world for a hot minute now. Any advice I can get from the members here would be greatly appreciated.

It's a pretty good deal and should get stupid loud. Be careful. A 1000W amp can send those speakers to the moon (smoldering when they land).

The best part is that you have all kinds of options. For volume, the cab will get you there. If the preamp and/or power amp and/or rack don't do it for you, you can sell that stuff one piece or all of it.

If you need effects, you can slap that BDDI on to a board and add a few things. Don't like the BDDI? All you need is a different preamp that will feed a power amp well.

In other words, it's modular. You can replace whatever you don't love. There are TINY power amps that fit on a pedalboard these days. You could literally ditch the rack and put the BDDI, a few effects, and a tiny power amp on a pedal board.

Have fun. Go nuts. That rig will shake your house for sure.

Thanks for the ideas if it comes to it.

Does anyone know if I'll lose tone, headroom, volume if I'm running this cab with only the pedal/power amp and the amp being 1.4v? Never used a setup like this and am just curious since others brought it up earlier on in the thread. @tech21nyc maybe they'd know.

This. As long as you're good with the idea of owning and lugging a 610 cab, everything should be fine.
There is no use in buying a modular setup and then replacing every part of it.

Can't tell you about numbers, but both my PBDDI pedal and my BDDI v2 have a button to boost the 1/4" out. I assume this is for driving a power amp directly, because that's what I use it for and it works.
The crown puts out way more than the ampeg can pump, so if you loose a little, it won't matter.
This rig should hold its own in a metal rehearsal room with a hard hitting drummer and dimed guitar halfstacks.

If it all works 100% when you plug into it, do it. That’s a great price. IMO if you have to deal with a flight of stairs to get it into your place, ask for help. (My neighbor actually loves to help me move my heavier stuff into my pickup truck, because I give him a bottle of bourbon for his assistance.)

Once you’re practiced back up and into a band, you can ask your bandmates to help you move your setup to where your band gets together to rehearse, and when you get to crank it up live at a gig, you won’t regret having more amp than what you need.

I’m one of the oddballs here who isn’t downsizing. - I do own some lightweight stuff, but I still prefer my big setup. Especially for the heavier material I’m playing these days.

Keep us posted!

Yeah definitely. Just one more day and then I'll be trying it out. I just hope something doesn't come up between now and then
