Double Bass My Fist EUB... Any Tips for me?

A simple shape hollow body like the pic on top, I haven’t decide yet if I want to carve a piece of Honduran mahogany and then glue a piece of zebrawood on the top of or a should I make it from a nice solid 8/4 piece of Walnut carved hollow and just close it with from behind with some thin wood, like a said before I’m don’t want it to be too heavy but I I’m concern about the strength of the body too

well the hole idea of this design is there is not need to make a hollow body since the body is not very wide and the front of the body is thin and light, well i have to bend some wood, but over all i dont think that the body will be hard to do..
now do you think that i getting my self in trouble by following this design?

Its a technically challenging design for a first build (If this is your first). Theres a fair bit of carving involved. You also have to somehow bend the soundboard. What wood are you going to use for this?
I had a similar idea at one point ( Still on the back burner for build #2) but i just couldnt see the advantages of the floating sound board compared to a solid/semi hollow body.
I would love to hear what other members of this forum think. Has anyone played one of these?
IMHO the EUB wont ever capture a real acoustic double bass tone so why even try to emulate it? The soundboard will 'dampen' the strings a little, it certainly wont produce any great unamplified volume, but combined with a transducer pup this is probably as close as you will get to an amplified DB.
I cant help thinking that a piezo pup with a little cork dampening mounted under the bridge of a solid body would (possibly) achieve the same result with a lot less technical building challenges.
That said, the ars-eub is a lovely looking instument and if you can build something similar then you will have a very nice bass indeed!

Thanks for the notes, they do have a couple sound samples in there website from my untrain ears sound desent I dont know what u may think,

for the sound board... I thinking on using a laminate made of 5 1/8" pieces of maple maybe, maybe the last one of walnut or zebra or cocobolo just for looks.. glue all together in a mold and clamp it..

the body of mahogany, Scojack I will post the plans ones I finish studing Rhino 3d, Im studing the new software very fast is just like autoCAD

Thanks Men this week I will try to have two designs ready for the body.. I will post it so you guys can tell me what u think

1) By the way how u like the peg head I’m going to be refining it to get it more round


2) Another thing the neck is perfectly flat, the finger board is perfectly flat but when I put one against the other u can see a very small gap in between :hmm: , if you press it a little it will disappear should I be worry, should I plane the whole think until no light goes thru?

1) Peghead - looks good to me. What pegs / machineheads are you going to use?
2) If you are absolutely sure that the neck is square and perfectly flat i personally wouldnt worry about a very slight gap as it will then be ok when glued up. I think its more likely that the fingerboard has a tiny warp, its one big long piece of ebony which can be affected by heat/humidity. If its a bigger gap I would plane or sand flat as you say.
