Well I know as a fact that i will be getting a new bass in about a year and a half. (I have set this date for myself and will stick to it). Ive been looking and looking at basses all the time. Ive always loved certain things about certain basses but usually there is something i dislike about a certain production bass. Right now i play a musicman sterling and it is my favorite production bass; i like everything about it. I really like the warwick tone as well but dont like some things about the bass, which keeps me from wanting to get one. Plus i feel they are overpriced. Which leads me to wanting to get a custom boutique bass. Ive never really bought an expensive basss new (only some cheaper ones a couple years ago). Something about a custom really appeals to me, i gues its the fact that you pick all the options and it is really yours . I really really really like the roscoe LG body shape, and the angled pickups. I have always liked bartolini pickups as well. I like a modern tone , ala musicman , but for my next bass i was thinking i should get something similiar but a little different. I found Roscoe basses and love them. The Demeter preamp appeals to me most because it is the most focused and modern sounding of the ones offered. It is most expensive by far, but if i am going all out on my dream bass, i dont want to hold back and be dissatisfied with something cheaper. The options i have chosen for the bass that i am GASing for right now are as follows: 5 string LG 3005 Swamp Ash body Cocobolo top (exhibition expensive grade..) Wenge fingerboard Standard Maple/Purpleheart/Maple neck Standard graphtech nut Standard 12th fret inlay Bartolini Pickups Demeter 3 band EQ 18v Black hardware This is a 5 string and not the same model that i want, but it inspired me to love cocobolo.
i almost bought that bass. it was on ebay through bunnybass for almost a month and a half. they wanted a little too much for it. i wish i woulda got it but if i did i would have never got my sadowsky. im gassing for a roscoe myself. i would like to try the century. if i cant find one used im going to get a skb 3005. about 5 months ago a local music store had a skb 3005 in a spalt burl top (or something like that) that was in like new condition and played great. some kid trades it in on a warrior and really got nothing for it. im friends with the owner of the store and was there when the kid brought it in. after the kid left, the owner told me he stole it from the kid and would let me have it for 800.00. at the time i was broke so i went home and thought about it. decided to put it on a credit card. went there the next day and it was gone....... :scowl:
Have you ever actually played one? I've been eyeing roscoes for quite awhile, researching, listening to samples and testimonials. THen I got to play one. And an MTD. Now I have to have one of each. *sigh*
Roscoe ggas is never ending gas ! I've got one for a few months and now thinking seriously to the second one, a fretless ! :d
Figjam, Sounds like your spec's would produce a killer sounding bass! My solid spalted maple Roscoe has the wenge fingerboard and I love the look and sound of it. That bass has the Aguilar OBP-3 pre and has a real a nice phat sound. Much more old school sounding than my Roscoe with the Demeter (which is more hi-fi sounding). Both great tones though!
No worries Figjam, I have Roscoe GAS that never goes away, and like you, that Cocobolo SKB-3005 is one of my favorite tops to date.
You want painful GAS? Try WORKIN' here!!! ...and you got a bit of "Beano" on the way, Halftooth, should leave tomorrow...
Should be no trouble man....it's a nice one, to say the least... ...now, for full on "" status, Akito is going to be the man for that in a few days...
Just curious, id like some input on fingerboard woods. Currently i love the feel and response of maple. Im curious how wenge and spalted purpleheart would compare. Any input on which you guys prefer?
I recently purchased a Roscoe 3005 with the wenge FB. It seems to add a bit of phatness to the tone. The bass has a great sounding mids. I've owned several Roscoe's with the purpleheart and they're brighter sounding than the wenge. I will have to add though my Roscoe with the wenge FB has a solid spalted maple body and all of the Roscoe's that I've owned w/purpleheart FB's had Spanish cedar bodies (except one LG 3005 that was soild myrtle burl). If you really like the sound and feel of maple you might want to consider the African tulipwood FB. My new 3005 has an Arican tulipwood FB and it sounds very close to maple but can be found with nice pinkish/orange streaks in it. Very cool looking. I'll include a pic.
Awesome Gene! Great looking top and back! I love the enhanced ash. I think that you're going to love the sound of the wenge FB.
