Well let's see here- if the guitarist and the bassist are both playing in the same octave, how are you to tell the difference between either instrument, how is this "defined". Unless they both have radically different tones?
Like I said, some of you just want to be different for difference sake, which is fine.
But Black Sabbath, Led Zep and even Deep Purple, early Iron Maiden will be HEAVIER than any of these Djent bands, with mostly standard tuning other than when Black Sabbath went to C# downtuning.
For fun, bring a cheap guitar to your next practice and say, well since you are playing the bass (essentially) one of us has to cover the high end guitar parts!
