Personally, the fact that such a terrible looking and playing bass got out of the shop is disappointing, but humans make mistakes, sometimes really bad mistakes. What is shocking is the possibility that Jimmy Coppolo knew this bass was subpar and dumped it someone who bought from him in good faith.
These circumstances are why I think it is a slur to mention Squier or SX in relation to this A-C bass. Squier honestly tries to make good basses at a low price point and so does SX. They do not misrepresent obviously flawed instruments.
I also laugh when a one man company falls back on a 'No Returns Policy'. 'Sorry dude, wish I could help ya, but it's "the policy"'
id think itd be better for a brand in general to not let out pieces like this where you obviously just f'd upThis situation is sad on so many levels. The main one is that this was a dream bass purchase, a fairly high dollar one at that. To have what should've been a great experience go this horribly wrong... wow.
I know several small luthiers and know how tough a market that can be to survive in so when I read the OP the question that practically screamed at me was "Why???".
Why would anyone sell a bass in that condition? Seems like it would require pretty some dire straits.
I hope the OP is compensated in full and that everything's okay with Jimmy.
Sadly, it is now off of my wish list. Don't want to take the chance.
Worse for Jimmy, is that it makes many people hesitant to purchase one of his instruments. The damage to his reputation with a large part of his target audience has been affected forever. Sadly, it is now off of my wish list. Don't want to take the chance.
LOL. I was waiting for you to post, since you, for some reason are a Jimmy hater.
Let's not go overboard here. Virtually ever A-C bass I've ever played, and the ones I own are at the top of the top of the top of the pinnacle of playability, construction, and especially tone. Simply amazing to me.
This issue (and quite frankly, something has happened over the last couple of years that has resulted in these unfortunate inconsistencies... I have regretfully stopped recommending these basses over the last couple of years) is definitely real and totally unacceptable. But to say that the dozens of professional players who love these instruments are 'hyping' is simply ridiculous. The basses that came out of the New York shop are simply fantastic.
Again, LOL. Gosh help us.
Oh, and it doesn't matter how kick ass this guy's other basses are. He sold a lemon knowingly.

Sorry, but unless some new information comes to light, I could never bring myself to recommend buying an AC, new or used. The kind of treatment the OP is experiencing is reprehensible on the highest level.I'm positive that AC will pull through on this but if not, I would be shocked.
Someone needs to email the builder this thread. Because if he has any brains in his head, he will immediately refund the 5 grand upon receipt of the bass, no questions asked. The damage to his reputation has already probably cost a lot more than simply giving the guy his money back.
