It was my birthday last night. Youngest of my sons is Colin who's 16 sent me this in a Happy Birthday email.

He'd made a Telecaster before which turned out fair (an extraordinarily flamey neck) but my mind was truly blown when I saw this. What do you guys think?

It looks great! It's so good for a young guy his age to learn craftsmanship. Regardless of what direction he goes in life, the experience of hand-building a high quality project will help him. Kids need to learn how to use tools and organize their physical skills, and build things, and be proud of what they've made. Important parts of leading a productive life.

Very awesome.

To echo what Bruce said above, my daughter is in medical school and considering orthopedic surgery. She said that one way to spruce up your application to residency for orthopedic surgery is to mention that "woodworking" is a hobby. They like people who have had experience with power tools. I guess my daughter can claim that to some degree as she's helped me make some furniture for her. I'll admit the first time I saw her try to use a power drill I felt like a failure as a father. She was very "stabby" with it, like she had to go at the wood with some velocity, ouch.
