"I want to play bass!"

Well you can imagine my excitement, so I immediately began my search for his first bass to call his own. He had told me that he really liked my Stingrays, but I wasn't going to buy him a new one, just incase he changed his mind. Plus I'm a 5 string player and he wanted a 4 stringer. So I settled on a Sub,SCRATCH THAT BONGO STEALTH and found a great deal. It will be here tomorrow, so I promise pics. You have no idea how happy and proud I am.

Let's just say that his first bass puts mine to shame BIG time! My first bass was a no name on the headstock made in Korea Jazz bass copy that cost $80.

That's great My parents are both musical but neither play bass (mom = piano & violin, dad = guitar, piano, church organ), but definitely encouraged me to learn any instrument I wanted (violin, clarinet, saxophone, guitar, and now bass), and made me take piano lessons starting at age 3 (which I hated at the time, but am VERY grateful for now).

Awesome! I was a sax=low brass= bass player myself. My daughter is 6, and already wants to be a drummer! Thats cool though. My dad is an amazing drummer, and he's why I wanted to play bass

I'm the only musician we have so far and by NO means am I a pro! However, my 10 year old daughter has a nice Epi *Sobe* promo Les Paul, a decent beginner keyboard and she's already gor her first GAS pains for a "Beatle Bass".

That SUB will be a PHENOMENAL first axe-I hope he thoroughly enjoys it!

Welcome to the bass dad club. My 13 yr old son has had 1 a week lessons for about 7 months now. Tonight his teacher gave him the thumbs up for memorizing 7 modes.

That's about 6 more than dad can remember

Once he gets some rhythm and timing down he'll be kicking my butt.

My folks weren't musical at all. I started playing when I was 19. Learned everything myself. My son has tried a few different things (violin, guitar, keys), but never really took to anything. I finally said, hey the only thing I can really teach you anything about is bass. So, I showed him a few songs and he's been practicing off and on. For his 15th birthday I just bought him a squire P bass with a little Fender Rumble 15. We'll see if it turns him on enough to put the time in.

He'll be 12 soon. He has pretty good rhythm, so it was either drums or bass. You can see where I was nudging him.
