My Latest Project: Behold the "Rickenberger" :D

Did a little work today. I routed the PUP cavities. Guess which one I did first? LOL! Yup, the neck PUP was attempted with a plexi HB jig from StewMac. That Dremel just melted that plexi and gave me an unclean edge. Thank goodness for trim-rings! The second one was quite a bit more successful. I simply hand-chiseled the edges nice and clean and then removed the bulk with the Dremel.

Now for the bridge cavity. Having no jig for that, I drilled the four 1/8" radius corners with a 1/4" drill bit in the drill press and, using the successful (albeit slower) technique above, started carefully chiseling away the outline. I then removed the remaining material with the Dremel to a 1/4" depth.

The bridge fits like a glove. Maybe too much like a glove considering finish materials. Nothing some sanding can't fine-tune tho.

So far, so good!

Cool project!

Yeah, you can't use a Dremel with those templates, you need a regular pattern bit with the bearing on the top. And even then the Stew Mac patterns are too thin. I wouldn't even use a Dremel for routing big cavities like that.

I make patterns for everything. it's better to screw up the pattern then the body blank!

But very nice work! I'm looking forward to seeing it finished.

BTW, I work in the graphic arts trade too. :)

I must admit....I don't get it. But nice call on buying the spindle sander. Using the right tools and taking things slow will make your design really come through. Can't wait to see the finished design... maybe it'll all make sense to me. :hmm:
