My Latest Project: Behold the "Rickenberger" :D

Just finished hand carving the recess for the electronics cover and it fits like a gl...well lay's just say it fits.

On a roll! Cleaned up the neck pocket, re-drilled the bolt-holes, popped the bridge in, threw on some strings to check alignment, and lo & behold! Its perfect! I'm flabergasted!
Next up is cleaning up the rough outline, adding body contours and rounding off the edge in back.

Chunky as in thick, or chunky as in overall big? I only ask as the body is actually quite smaller in scale to an actual Ric. I had to scale it down to XM size.

Neck pocket cleaned up, edges rounded, and contours cut in. Now it needs some sanding then its out for color.

I vote you slap multi coats of "magic bus" on that half breed so's that'll match the kit I'm piecin' together. I mean... when's the last time you saw a yellow bass? Where are you getting it painted? I might need them to yellow lacquer my set if I can't find a good match through Sonor or Gretsch. Lookin' good, man ;O)

I forgot about that one! You've been through more basses in past couple years it's hard to keep track. Thanks for the painter lead. That guy does some awesome work! Is he the guy who did Frankenbacker or did you do that one yourself?

The Wilkat Rickenbergs you pictured on page one were made for me. I actually liked the single pickup one he made first the most out of the 2 he built. It had a thinner body like the Rick with the narrower neck of the Steins which was a good match. I look forward to seeing the finished product.
I still have and play the Wilkat CAVEMAN bass today, its my psuedo Entwistle bass.

On that sub-post about your Westone repaint... was that a yellow PEAVEY that Instagator was showing off? Yellow rocks, man! I nearly popped a rod in my jeans! I don't recall seeing that other one you sent out for paint. You must be turning them around pretty quick. Looked awesome, I'll keep him in mind. I remember you doing this stuff when you first started playing... I believe it was a Hofner Beatle copy that you Lacquered up in the basement. Then you sold that to Johnny and got a Rick copy in Hartford, I don't think you put your mark on that one though. Then came your Peavey, which was natural, but I think you lacquered that one up too. Just a note to BassTalk members... this madness has been going on for 34+ years now! My bro.. the perpetual tinkerer! He's always been hyper creative. Looking forward to seeing the epilogue on this one

Refined some details over the weekend. Added a funky little lap contour and a a giant radius to the back of the tuner cut-away. I also drilled for some flush-mount straplocks. Off to paint at the end of the month so I'm anticipating completion around the middle of April.
Did you sell those? I would have killed for the second version. Just a beautiful instrument.
