My mouth does funny things

Man, that is exactly what happens to me. Looks like I’m talking or saying something while I’m playing. I have no idea that I’m even doing it. I started chewing gum to avoid it.

Not unusual to make faces while playing.

I have been practicing up-tempo swing lately. I noticed that I clack my teeth to the quarter note . I can control it, but its challenging and distracting.

I do this when I'm playing piano. Learning the part really well, so I don't have to concentrate so hard, helps a lot. I also just try to be aware, stop doing it when I feel it happening. Sometimes I'll sing along under my breath, which looks better to the audience than chewing my tongue or whatever the hell else I'm doing, at least it just looks like I'm really into the music.

Gum and sunglasses work well lol... Seeing pictures/videos of yourself playing frequently helps a lot too!! I don't look like I'm sneezing mid dump anymore!

I've been told my jaw is pretty "active". I typically don't notice it myself, but when I do, it's because it's following the rhythm/timing of the song, which I guess gets translated to what my picking hand is doing.

Bass face is great! I do all kinds of silly stuff when I'm into it. Close eyes/mouth open is my default.

I know I do it. I prefer to think of as akin to Ewan McGregor making light saber noises when filming those scenes. Sometimes you just can't help it. What's worse is that I look constipated when I am concentrating on singing and playing at the same time. The only thing worse than that is knowing it and continuing to sing anyway.

I got hooked on Jolly Ranchers while playing and thought I would look funny sucking on candy. I moved on to Cavendish & Harvey hard candy, it's at least all natural.

Now I wonder what is worse? Bass face or suck face? LOL

I like the gum idea.

My mouth does funny things too. Like when my wife asks me "how does this outfit look?" and my mouth says, "It's going to look great when it's a crumpled pile on the bedroom floor." Yeah, I'm a freaking riot.
