My mouth does funny things

When I’m playing I can see three things: look at the audience, look at my band mates, or lost in my own world. I prefer #3. That’s when I may make strange faces.

I used to play with a drummer who would make weird sounds when he was playing. Like “unnnnh…….ummmmm……..uhhhhh……..” He used a headset mic so it came through the mix if we didn’t turn him down.

The solution is obvious - stop playing difficult parts.

My band told me that when Im concentrating on a difficult part of a song I do funny things with my mouth, so I took a vid and I look so ridicules. Does this happen to you and how do I stop the funny face? And no Im not showing you the video.

Learn to scat along with whatever you are playing. Folks will probably concentrate more on how silly you sound as opposed to how silly you look.

32 years on this instrument and only tonight I had my very first bass drool.

Lost in my world playing along with Dragon Attack by Queen. Right in the middle of it I startled myself when a drop of spit landed on my t shirt, jumped out of my chair and realized I was drooling like a bulldog the whole time.

I used to laugh at other guys over that kind of thing, never thought it would happen to me.
